i was just using my bro's old 350mhz computer running win2k pro and i noticed that it was actually quite speedy, and this is considering i have a 1.2 athlon running win98. was it just my imagination, or is win2k pro faster in everyday apps than win98? if this is so, i might upgrade to win2k, but i'm scared programs won't be compatible and i'll have to format and reinstall again. is there a way if i upgrade from win98 to 2k, and switch back if i don't like it?

Rather than do an upgrade, I suggest you do a dual boot. That way you can still switch between OSes as needed.

you should always keep a data partition so that way, even if you format your system partition, you dont lose your data. if youre not sure if win2k is for you, do a dual boot at first and see if youre able to get along without booting into win98. after a week or so, just decide on one of them and wipe the other. ive found with dual boots, you tend to stick to only one of the OS's anyway and the other one is just a waste of space.

what programs specifically are you concerned about being supported in win2k?

i don't know how to create a 2nd partition, i think i'm supposed to use partition magic, but i got confused. anyone know a guide that walks you through it? i'm afraid i'll mess up my current partition.
