what really depresses me is that the new may video card buyer's guide says the radeon 9800 pro is still a great choice for light to moderate gaming, now that is just sad. I have a sapphire 9800 pro and love it, the only game I have had to turn anything down on is Far Cry, and it still looked really good at medium with some settings on high. As for all the games you've listed, you should have no problem with them. Next generation games (HL2, Doom 3, etc.) might not come out for a long time so you can probably upgrade again when (and if) they actually come out. I personally find it humurous that they have been tuning HL2 for like 8 months now. Oh, and I don't think the 9800 pro is going to drop so much in price that it is going to make you think you have wasted money, IMO.

Pretty much what I figured. Thanks. Bought the Sapphire 9800 Pro with possibly the R360 core, shipped yesterday, I'll get it on Friday :)

The source engine has nothing more than some fancy environmental effects. Since seeing the HL2 E3 video forever ago it has become less and less impressive.

As for the person saying the Cry Stalker or Source engines? Come on, there has to be 45 games based on the Q3 engine alone.

I say possibly even more. The Doom III engine will probably be the biggest licenced engine out there when it comes out.

Oh, and about the comment way above, the D3 engine has vastly improved over the Q3 engine when it comes to lighting.
