Give it a year or two, tops. Everybody here will be running Vista with maybe a couple of exceptions, and we'll all be clammoring over how much better it is than XP.
Actually, I think it will be different this time. With the prices Microsoft is trying to get for this new O/S and the lack of compelling features I can foresee a lot more resistance to "upgrading". Plus Linux is getting better all the time.

MSDN FTW!

You use MSDN at home?

I don't see anything listed in that article that gives me any reason to upgrade. The only forseeable reason for me to switch is for gaming.

Yeah, every couple years I'll fire up a little Linux and see how much is changed... if they can nail down the wireless card support, that will be a big win.

you're aware that 'basic' costs the same as xp home, and 'premium' costs less than xp pro, right?

nope. not until i get a new computer. as much as vista is nice and is supposed to be more secure, there is no support for nForce 2 which means my mobo ain't compatible. RC2 worked fine, but SATA doesn't work with Vista. anyway, i'll wait. i don't like being a guinea pig. i ran 2k for atleast 2 years after XP was released. i'll wait till SP2 for Vista.

No I wasn't asking about Linux because I'm not interested in it. Anyways I read the article and found the cost which is around the same for XP. However after reading the article I didn't see where it added anything that I need at the moment.

I will definitely be an early adopter. I know in a couple of years people will be praising how much better it is than XP ever was. (Unless DRM kills it... :))

im already running vista ultimate final on my media server and desktop thanks to the free copy I got for being in their mce beta program..... The only reason to switch is if you want a more "mac" like experince (ilife) with updated media player, photo player, dvd maker, video editor, email etc.

I really like the new media player (which is more or less wmp11 but vista has some additions), the photo thing is a good basic photo program which replaces picasa imo, havent spent much time in the movie/dvd editors but they seem improved over previous versions, and I doubt I will use the email client unless they improved imap support (using thunderbird now but havent had a chance to play with mail).

I really like the dropdown address bar thing (where you can go to any level with one click) and the search everywhere is a nice addition. Basically what makes vista good imo is its no huge major changes but alot (and there are alot) of little enhancements which aid the user experince.

Hmm, those 2 paragraphs leave me confused. The little enhancements sound really nice... but before that you basically say it's just the kind of bloatware that experienced users don't use/need (we have 3rd party stuff we like for it)...

Or maybe I misunderstand...
