Is V8 (the drink) actually good for you with all that salt?

Been drinking V8 lately (doesn't taste too bad after you drink a few and your taste buds get used to it), but it has really hight sodium content (i think its like 35% or something). Isn't that actually bad for you? That can lead to high blood pressure, if i am not mistaken.

Anyone drink this or are there other versions of it?

Sodium doesn't cause high blood pressure. It's really only an issue if you already have it.

There is a low sodium variety, but IMO it doesn't taste right without the salt.

The spicy kind is pretty good, also.

I remember my friend once accidently bought Diet V8 Splash for a mixer once. That was probably the worst drink I've ever had. Drinking Diet V8 Splash by itself will leave you reaching for a chaser.

Sodium leads to water retention, which makes you look bulky. Make sure to drink plenty of water if eating salty foods/drinks. That said, since I was a little kid I was scared of V8. :p It's so... health nut, like in a bad way.

Thanks to SLU for the answer. I'll have the wife buy some next time she goes a' grocery shopping. HAs to be better than a 20 oz Mt. Dew, I'd think...

so over 1/3 of the bottle is sodium? That's more of a sludge than a drink.

I am sure it cannot be good for you with all the salt, but it sure is tasty in a bloody mary

No, the daily alloted value %. You know when you look at a label and it has all the stuff in whatever you're consuming, and %'s of what you should take in on one day based on a 2000 calorie diet.

I like V8 personally. As long as it is kept cold. Warm V8 is pretty nasty. They mix rather well with Vodka too.
