<< I prefer to use Direct3D. Even though OpenGL + S3TC looks better I can't stand the banding on the coronas. >>
Yup. Thats from nV's broken S3TC/DXTC1 hardware. Everything else looks soooo much better though. You can always turn off the coronas. I dont like them anyway.
You have the textures installed from CD #2, so you are almost there. Go to this page and download the OpenGL renderer and install it. Open up your UnrealTournament.ini file and modify it as shown on that same page. Start UT in safe mode, chage your 3D device to OpenGL (you have to show all devices). You dont say what kind of video card you have. Not all can use this setup. A Radeon of GF2/3 will work well.
Oldfart: I am using a GF3 overclocked to 270/615 right now (Gainward GF3 Golden Sample VIVO DVI). I can't find the OGL renderer on the Unreal Tournamnet site though . Any chance you have a direct link? I just spent about a half hour looking for it with no luck...

I happen to like coronas and 32 bit Direct3D gives me clearly and smoothly rendered ones. Also the sky has problems too; check out the Galleon level to see what I mean.

<< Updated beta OpenGL renderer May 9, 2001 - by Daniel Vogel
This is a zip with latest beta version of the OpenGL renderer which fixes the black screen at exit bug. Thanks to NVIDIA for helping me track it down. There have been no changes which could affect performance or visual quality. >>
