Is UCSD's CS program any good?

Its awsome, very challenging and well respected in the industry.


but like with all university programs it is what you make of it.

good lord!! are you sure he graduated with a CS degree and not EECS?? I never thought cs majors could make so much unless they've been promoted to manager or something like that. Maybe i should change my major from EE to CS and go there.

I'm making close to that and i just graduated from UCSD CS program, in genreal EE majors get paid less then CS majors do. (its a common misconception)

WTF!! If thats true, im gonna have to sit down and seriously rethink my plans in academics.

after all whats the point of EECS if you can just graduate with CS and get paid more??
 
well ive been taking lower div courses for CS for 2 years and I recently decided to switch to EECS since im only a couple lower div courses shy and i thought there would be more money in it. Now i might just stay in CS.

sigh, decisions decisions...

He just has an undergrad degree. I think he is like a project manager or something. Yeah he makes good money for being 26. :Q

I dunno, EEs who know both digital and analog stuff inside out supposedly make a quarter mil a year. :Q >>




Very few engineers pull that kind of yearly salary, usually they get rich with stock options.

probably not because the classes you wont do ass a ECE major is take software engineering and and bunch of the cool upper division classes that really make you attractive to employers

I believe so. As I understand it, EECS is a double major in electrical engineering and computer science. You should probably go talk to an advisor tho, I haven't taken classes at Cal for over 2 years. Oh wait, Cal sucks and you have to wait a week to talk to an advisor. 😉 >>



at UCSD you are not allowed to double major with both majors being in the Jacobs School of Engineering, The ECE major has all the same lower division as CSE but the upper division ellective are not open to choice you have to take certain EE classes, with a CS major if your really interested you could take the same classes as the EE guy if you wanted to.
