Is U2 Selling out?

Me and a hardcore U2 fan were having an argument over this. Do you think U2 has sold themselves out with Apple/iTunes. They released "Vertigo" over iTunes that day it came out in Sept. BEFORE releaseing the CD Single.... And apple is going to start selling iPods preloaded with every U2 song on them...... I think U2 has sold themselves out, what do you think?>

How has U2 sold out?

*OH NOES U2 LET APPLE SELL VERTIGO ON ITUNES BEFORE THE CD SINGLE THAT NO ONE EVER BUYS ANYMORE ANYWAY, WHAT SELLOUTS*

it's hard to say U2 is selling out, i'm not sure how much i like Vertigo, but shrugs, a lot of bands release exclusively: A bunch of itunes exclusives exist.

I think Dave Matthews Band did a few napster only exclusives. You can't argue that everytime a band does something to be successful that htey've sold out. I would buy a U2 MP3.. if i didn't already own all their cd's and now vertigo bought off itunes.

edit : just like the Jurassic5 line "We're still the same with a little fame, a little change in the houshold name but ain't too much change".

Eh, it was kind of a Pop-era move for them, but I still plan on buying their new album and I hope to see their tour in 2005.

Hard Core U2 Fan here....and I'd have to say no. They have always been a great band, and have been around for a while now. I just see it as extra promotion for a new CD, that's all.

I don't have any problems with bands "buying in" (I guess you could call it "selling out"). That being said, I seriously doubt U2 could even find Ireland on a map nowadays. 😉

I guess I understand what you guys are saying, it could just be my intense hatred towards Apple that makes me think this.

BTW, its not "1, 2, 3, 14"

It's "Some, 2, 3, 14" (He clearly says "Unos")

well as long as they don't start making Top 40 music to sell records, then i guess they aren't selling out. Maybe they're trying new ways to distribute music.

I'm hoping it's a sign that bands are starting to get it. It's not a complete understanding of technology and how to use it, but they're getting there.

They are a commercial Rock Band. They "sold out" long ago. About the time they accepted that record company contract say around "Sunday, Bloody Sunday".

Over the years U2 have become so self-rightous they make my stomach turn, I literally become nauseous listening to them.

U2 is a pile of shite, always has been and always will be. They've been sold out for years and their music is terrible.

no seriously, I could replace 'the edge' with a fvcking boss DD3 delay pedal and a guitar loop sampler.
