Is Turn Left really a sport?

I'm no NASCAR fan, but I've been to two races at Talledega and it's pretty goddamn fun. I was there at Earnhardt's last win when came from like 18th place in 11 laps or so. 175,000 spectators went crazy.

It's the same as people who think drag racing is boring because they only go in a straight line probably haven't felt the sheer power of a top fuel car.

All these guys do is turn left. Hey, that can't be a sport! Moron.

NASCAR eats shit. 99.5% of the race is holding pattern, and the action happens at the end. They need to make it a 5 mile race, and just get it over with. Compete the whole race, and save everybody's time, and fuel.

If it was a 5 mile race, the people qualifying last wouldn't have a chance in hell. It would also eliminate any requirement for pit strategy, tire and fuel management, etc.

5 cars max, single elimination. A days races should take about an hour. Screw pit strategy.

ive always been curious, why did they decide on left? why not right?

hell they shoudl do both, go back and forth between events, would make it slightly more interesting

waste of gaaaaaaaaaaas

Given how infrequent those races actually are, I'd say they use considerably less than the average American commuter. Millions of people do 30 miles plus, every day, twice a day. That adds up quickly. Not to mention oil power plants and all those government vehicles doing work for us all day long.

All sports are logically pretty stupid, but can nonetheless be fun to engage in or watch.

Thats true. Almost every single sport we have now is either directly related or indirectly derived from an activity soldiers performed out in the field to cure boredom or test their strength. Most of the Olympics is directly related to Greek army activities, both combat related and general performance. The Romans added their stuff. Baseball I think was derived from civil war soldiers smacking around a rotten fruit with a stick. Basketball was similar.

Google/Yahoo Answers says 0.00133% of the national consumption (approx 300,000 gal/year - Sprint Cup series).

your point was that the term is used by non-Americans to identify themselves amongst others. My point is that this would not work, b/c everyone uses that term.

see?

No, that would be incorrect.

The two are not mutually exclusive. Grow a brain.

I love NASCAR >.> I also watch F1 when I can but theres almost no contest and you know whos going to be in the top 5 every race.

I don't like NASCAR but I don't like any other motorsports either, except rally racing. Maybe those 4x4 truck races too, they're pretty exciting.

The problem with NASCAR, F1, and most other forms of racing is they last too long. The races are hundreds of miles long. There's not much difference between NASCAR and F1 - in one they just turn left and in the other they turn left and right, but they're both still horribly boring.

I recognize the level of skill required as well as the difficult strategies involved, it's just boring. I like watching rally races because the stages are relatively short and it's just the driver vs. the stage. MotoGP races are a much more reasonable length as well.

...Despite what people seem too think "just turning left" is not as simple as it seems. If it was as easy as that why wouldn't people just be instantly good at it?

.....
Don't chicks do it? Can't be too hard if chicks do it.
