tu·i·tion ( P ) Pronunciation Key (t-shn, ty-)
n.
A fee for instruction, especially at a formal institution of learning.

fee

fee

fee

"There is not tuition at UC's for California residents. The fees to attend a UC for a state resident are ~$5000 + whatever specific fees are levied at a particular school. Out of state tuition is ~$12,000."

I think you have your vocabulary mixed up! My sis went to UC and she had to pay tuition as a California resident. Again, the difference is that tuition varies if you're a resident vs a non-resident. Residents have regular tuition. Non-residents have astronomical tuition. Again, there was a bill attempted to help non-residents in paying the same fees as residents.

Here's proof of tuition for residents: One Example.
