Sorry but i had a 8800 for years. Just switched to a 5850 and I have had to do more tweaking and hacking to get several games to work. Even newer games like sc2 still have bugs. I am not saying NV is perfect. But it is ATIs weakest point by far. New cards are nice, but drivers need to be brought to a higher level to make it exciting.

what sc2 bugs have you had? I've got a 4890 didn't have any probs.

I'm curious what kind of tweaking you've had to do on what games to get them to work. I haven't had to "tweak" any game to work in over a decade.

Have a 4870 for SC2, didn't have any issues that I'm aware of.

Had to do a lot of tweaking with FO3 though, but that's not an ATI/AMD issue. Thats Gamebyro being a crapfest.

sc2 bug is well known. You can play for a while and the cursor will wig out. Where it becomes a bunch of lines. Then all the sudden back to normal. I have had to tweak, gothic 3, stalker and a couple others. Yes they are old buggy games, but my NV card worked without issue. But this is not a driver thread. I am saying that I would be more excited about the 6800s if the drivers were far better. Hardware wise this is the best card I have had in a long time. It runs cooler and quieter than my 8800gts and the colors are far better.

I have not experienced the cursor bug with my 4870 512M under the 10.8s or 10.9s myself. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist though.

Complaining about Gothic 3 though? Every card, every system, from every vendor needs to tweak that thing to get it run at all. Its one of the buggiest POSs ever made. 😛

Did you fully wipe all the Nvidia drivers? Switching from Nvidia to ATI, or ATI to Nvidia seems to be problematic without a good scrubbing.

I was under the impression that the NDA expired tonight @ midnight. Guess I'm wrong, although there still is 4 hours left.

It's Oct 22nd now? Geez, the release date always seems to be on the move.

One has to set a release for a release date to 'move'.

The best dates we have had are this week some time. 18 being the first day, 22 being the last.. Patience as always.

too many people are waiting for the 6 bang bang bang release

Exciting release 🙂

Just saw some images of the 6870 and 6850 at Tech Report. They are benchmarking them right now 😉

They are also showing off AMD Llano confirming mid 2011 release

People will never stop saying they have bad drivers it seems. I find it funny, since I had huge drivers issues with my 8800GTX back in the days.

Same as, regular nvlddmkm.sys crashes (although I'm not sure who to blame, Nvidia, vista or both!). Never had an ATi driver problem but I am still avoiding Xfire.

i have a pair of them. We were allowed to preview them on our respective sites a few hours ago and show the images.

Define "exciting"

i found Llano pretty exciting

I found Llano exciting as well, its going to make for some interesting upgrade options next year for my general use computer. What is most exciting is upgrading. I have already upgraded my 4770 to GTS 450 and now it's time for something better than my 4870. What I am looking at is maybe GTX 460 1GB or something from AMD.

Media embargo lifts midnight on Thursday. Possibly the cards will be available for purchase then as well.

AMD does love their paper launches, so I wouldn't count on it.

But hell, I hope everything goes amazing for AMD, and Nvidia, the more competition, the more prices are lowered, and the better for all consumers.

Perhaps, but what you wrote goes completely against the vast majority of rumors out there for hard launches, and AMD hard-launched Cypress last year with worse 40nm availability than this year. Thus I see no basis for what you wrote. NV seems to agree with the rumors, because according to HardOCP, GTX 460-1GB and GTX 470 will get price cuts in a few days.
