Is today 6700 release day?

Still waiting for 6700 reviews to crop up. Maybe I'm just over anxious but it's 2:15 Zulu time here and I've yet to see any review news. Today is the day, isn't it?

Not sure, the article on Anand's main page said they would reveal sometime this week, so it could be anywhere from today to Friday. Today would be a nice birthday surprise, though 😀

Happy bday!

Can't wait for reviews!

Many people were saying the 22 in another thread. Which sucks to me since I'll be away for the weekend without internet 🙁

I can't wait for the reviews of the 6000 series to hit because I am waiting before I upgraded my 4870 to something better. Have already went from 4770 to geforce gts 450 which was a good upgrade 🙂

I'm just curious what this release will be AND what it will actually change in the game.

Probably won't upgrade for some time, no game WORTHY of upgrade out there right now.

4870 still kicking around, but showing it's age here and there.

whats all the hoopla about ? They are releasing cards that perform worse . Is there something i'm missing ?

Perform worse then what? If the goal is to release cards better then the 5770 etc then its hardly bad. It can help people get into a better card at a better price, or even drop prices on other cards. Its not as good as a whole new monster set of cards, but still looks promising.

October 22nd I believe.

Also you have an HD5870 in which case this launch means little for you, not until 6950/6970/6990 are out.

Even better multi-monitor support (think 6 displays from 2 DisplayPorts alone). Better UVD3 for video acceleration/encoding, etc. Better performance at nearly every price segment on the market compared to current HD5000/GTX4xx offerings. Ultimately, the fastest graphics cards in the HD69xx series will have the performance crown. Also, expect much faster tessellation performance and general improvement in DX11 performance compared to HD5000 series.

Obviously if you already have a good videocard such as 5850/5870/5970/GTX460/470/480, then HD68xx launch will mean absolutely nothing (perhaps other than to gauge performance for higher end parts). However, currently AMD has a huge whole in their lineup with nothing to compete with from $150-$220. The newer HD68xx series cards will exactly fill this void, offering more choices and better performance for consumers.

I couldn't wait... ended up picking up a GTX 470 over the weekend... but if the AMD 6800s reviews look good I'll return the GTX 470 and get a 6870... for now I'm happy I'm pwning everyone in FPS games now... before I had an ATI 2600XT in my rig to hold out for a new GPU but I got tired of getting killed in FPS...

Wow.. I have only owned a 5850 for four months, but honestly I cannot get excited about this because ATI is still way to lacking in the driver department. In fact this makes me sad because it means the 5800 series drivers are not likely to get the fixes they need.
ATI could go so much further if it could just get it's act together.

I think HD6870 should offer similar performance with lower power consumption and noise than the 470. Not sure if it's worth returning for you or not. Did you find the 470 too loud with the stock cooler once you enabled manual fan profile?

Its funny because ATI has had the better drives since the Radeon 9700 days, in Windows at least. Linux support improves every month, but its still behind Nvidia.

This thread really brings out the trolls.

People will never stop saying they have bad drivers it seems. I find it funny, since I had huge drivers issues with my 8800GTX back in the days.

The green trolls like to ignore the fact that Nvidia has burned out their own cards and was responsible for at least a third of all Vista crashes. Simply because Nvidia couldn't bother to update their drivers to work with the new driver model. It was really bad for people with Nvidia mobos. I'm glad they're out of th chipset market.
