Thanks for the replies and other suggestions. I had my wife pick it up and we are probably gonna keep it. We used our Amex so if anything goes wrong it will be covered for 2 years.
If the picture quality is horrible we alway have the 'bonus' of returning it to a local store and not have to worry about shipping it.

might as well spend another $100 or so for an olevia 232v. got one from CC on BF. this thing is awesome... much better than the MAG from staples.

Great deal on a nice LCD I just wish it offered QAM.

That model is $900. I realize I have 2 rebates but the Astar is $400. If it was just another $100 or so I may have go that route.

If I was to spend $900 I would then start considering other tv that are just another $100 or so more like the Samys, Panys or even Sony. It is an endless battle.

It's a moot point, but the 232v is often on sale for $599 or less (consistently in the $500-$550 range).

The only thing that matters now is you're happy with your purchase.

If it's as no-name as I think, then I wouldn't bother. I've seen the cheap Futureshop/Best Buy TVs (Prima, Insignia) in store, and they look terrible. Chances are they are hooked up to a crappy source, but the ugly bezels and poor colour are enough of a turn off. Worth getting a look at the thing first.

37" Olevia for $599 + shipping.

that's a monitor, not a television.

He has a cable box, he doesn't need a tuner.

I'm just saying you're comparing apples to oranges

You do realize that's pretty much the only difference between a HDTV and HD Monitor, right?

yes. but not everyone understands this and I've heard of plenty of people getting a monitor home and not understanding why it won't tune in

LCD tv and digital cable or regular tv signal will look like complete garbage on the set sorry to say. HD will look ok on it, and computer will look ok on it, but tv will look like sh!t.

And no Im not talking out my ass about this I had Sat with my 32" lcd with the same specs and I had a 30" Phillips CRT HDTV at the same time. The $400 OTD refurbished Phillips looked the best all around with everything and sold my LCD. I will wait till they get the format down right before I will go with another LCD, IMO. And yes my 30 Phillips is bigger but it has a much better picture as far as the blacks go and detail (its a crt), and handles a 1080I signal without scaling it down where as the LCD only did 720P all around (downscales anything higher), and blacks, shadows, the color black, anything in the black color scale, looked like crap and was very disapointed that the LCD tv that cost me 2x the Phillips did looked as bad as it did.

Only thing it did great at was as a computer monitor, which wasnt enough to make me keep it around.
