Is this too hot for my OC'ed Opty 148?

I have a 148 Opty OC'ed to 2750(250x11) with a XP90 on it and it runs 53* idle and 63* peak(Prime95). While I know those temps are well within it's thermal limits, I don't want the chip to die an early death because it is running too hot for too long. Most stuff keeps it around mid to upper 50's, but my 3D gaming takes it to low 60's, and that's just a little of a concern. Is low 60's ok for peak for this chip, or is that too hot?

I'd say its cause for concern... You generally want your A64 chips to Peak in the mid-high 50's max if possible, since as you expected, it is certainly not good for the chip to run that hot for extended periods. Perhaps look at the airflow of your case and try to improve a bit, also watch the room temperature.

Something else is going on here.

That chip shouldn't be running that hot at all.

What is your chip voltage set at and how is your airflow in the case?

Have you double checked your heatsink installation?

I put on a faster 80mm fan, reduced my peak to 59*. My brackets for a 92mm fan broke, so have to use an 80mm. Might just get a new HS. What are the top HSF combo's for under $60?

59* was still too hot for my taste, so just ordered a SI-120 with a Panaflow high output fan. If that doesn't cool it, nothing will!

These Opterons seem to run a lot hotter than their desktop counterparts. My 146 runs at least 10C hotter than my 3700+. Even with watercooling I get load temps of 46-47C with 1.6V. My 3700+ loaded at 39C with 1.65V.
