I bought this system on 1/5/01, it is supposed to be here by the 15th.
I would like to have some recommendations on any hardware I need to buy to pimp it out, if it isn't already.

yeah he bought a gateway: Case Gateway Mid-Tower Case

i had a g6-300. man do i hate gateway or any OEM. that POS computer was one of the worst i bought. everything was integrated and there was no AGP slot. couldn't even install win2k on my particular board. i needed a new BIOS upgrade but there was 2 made and none ever since. well at least i got a mug from them.

The AOL is free it was from Gateway $2279 + s/h + tax = $2499.40.
I bought it instead of built it because:
A)I was going to buy a rig this summer for college but I have to hide my savings so I can get finacial aid.
B)The free tech support and new parts if something breaks
C)Pre-built systems usually don't have compatability issuses(especially bigger companies)

it's a pretty nice computer though. no luck overclocking it though.......unless you softFSB has supports its clockgen.

The cost did put my stomach in knots though, I don't think I have ever spent over $300 before at one time.

Hardware? You will need a shotgun and a big dog cause when I find where you live I'm gonna steal that bad boy Seriously, that's a heck of a system to connect to AOL with=P And you will have hell getting all the AOL crap off of your system when you decide you want a real connection. It's like a virus. You think you got it all and then there it is laughing at you AHAHAHAHA! Hopefully your college will have a super-duper T1 connect for you to hop on.
Btw if you have any more money you need to hide just icq me. I have the perfect spot for it :]

I'm not using the AOL, I have a local connection already. It just says it on the gateway page and I copy/pasted it.

That's a nice system, but I suggest that when you first get it, you reformat right away, that will get rid of AOL and all the other crap they install on there

Not if it's configured poorly. I'm not sure if Gateway installs their software like HP and Compaq do, but if all it comes with are &quot;Recovery CD's,&quot; you can forget formatting it unless it comes with the actual OEM Win ME CD. The only place I would buy a pre-built system from would be either Falcon Northwest or Alienware -- they design systems for gaming and application performance.

1. Gateway sucks, it will not rock.

2. A couple thousand in your savings account will not lower your financial aide. It will be based off your parents income for the most part.

3. How bout hyperlinking you sig so future generations can trash on your new overpriced computer.

Gateways do not suck, I have one that beats most of my friends.
It's a Intel 450Mhz P2.
It out preforms my friend's with a Intel 500 Mhz p3(store bought) and my friends with a AMD 600 MHz Athlon (home built).
They told me this themselves.
