This seems like a very solid value. Possibly the same model as the Massdrop Vast that had the same price?

I'm currently using an early LG 3440x1440, and I might be inclined to pick this up at some point and use both (this one for gaming and the ol' LG for work/productivity) when I decide I need to upgrade my GPU (assuming there's a viable AMD option), this seems like the Freesync 2 to get.

Well it's maximum brightness is listed at 300 nit, depending who's HDR standard you use, that simply isn't enough brightness for HDR

VESA DisplayHDR standard lists the minimum brightness for HDR as 400 nits, with 600 and 1000 nit being higher quality HDR.

So if it supports HDR, it's only barely. They aren't advertising any particular HDR standards on the specifications page. (HDR10, HDR10+, DisplayHDR, etc)

Gotcha, they are probably lying about the Freesync 2 spec then and I bet it's just a clone like the Massdrop Vast. Still looks like a nice monitor, but doesn't seem to tick that last box for HDR, which I agree would be nice.

From what I understand, Freesync 2 itself is meant to enable seamless HDR rendering among the various HDR standards that currently exist. I still think the panel itself needs to support HDR for this benefit to be useful.

So HDR is not required for freesync 2, but freesync 2 allows an HDR display to more easily display the proper HDR tones in windows.

From my understanding HDR is required for freesync 2. That's the point of freesync 2, to certify monitors which reach a certain minimum level of functionality. There are a couple of references of HDR (and SMPTE 2084 specifically) in the manual of the monitor mentioned above, so I assume the controller can accept and process HDR content at some level.

But the issue seems to be whether the panel itself is capable of displaying HDR content? And in this situation I can only assume the freesync 2 certification is less strict than others..

It seems at the very least the monitor must be able to accept and process the HDR data internally, as Ryan covered in his article back in the day.

A lot of the media I read around that time also mentioned more strict brightness, contrast, and color space regulations of the panels but I haven't seen anything concrete about that at all. And it seems kinda silly to have awesome internal tech when the panel can't display anything special in the end.

Personally I'll be looking for other HDR certifications as well, which seems to be the consensus. But I did want to clarify (muddy the water?) about what exactly freesync 2 certifies and what exactly is necessary to be called "HDR"? In this situation I would argue the monitor is HDR but not good enough for those other certifications, but I understand the counter arguments.
 
Curious about the Freesync range on this one.

My guess based on the Massdrop version is that it will match at 49 - 100Hz. If true that might be worth it, especially with a current deal of $50 off.

I picked up a cheap (under $400) Viotek 34" version and the Freesync doesn't work. After various testing, I'm thinking it might be the monitor itself...
 
Ive read posts where (thank god Monoprice has a 0 dead pixil gaurentee) where some poor soul had to go though 3 monitors to get one without a dead pixil.

Does this still apply?
Anyone get this monitor since the post in May?
 
It's on the bay of Es at $100 below MSRP. Really makes me consider giving it a shot and possibly packing up my Viotek and selling that off.
 
Hmm, still $450 on eBay. I don't see the Pixel-perfect guarantee prominently listed on their eBay store, so I wonder if it qualifies for purchases made through eBay, even if it is from MP?

Anyone else have any other experience with this display?

Staff answers claim a few pieces of info that I didn't see on the normal spec page:

--Freezync range 30-100mhz (sounds great if actually true--I'm familiar with several advertised freesync ranges being complete fabrications, though. That Samsung panel from late last year, for one)

--This is a AM-VA and the panel is Manufactured by AUO - Model : M350QVR01.1
This is the/one of current "top" IPS-quality, fast panels, right?

I haven't been able to justify the purchase... so I am also curious to see if anyone bites on this.

It looks like it would be a winner, but I've spent all of about an hour at my computer (at home) in the last week, so springing for a new monitor would be silly.
 
You know, I also noticed that the page on Monoprice never mentions FreeSync 2. It just says Freesync.

Could that be related to the May date of this thread, the following discussion about 300nits being 100 below the minimum allowed spec for FS 2, and that maybe Monoprice recognized this internally, or were challenged externally, and have since, silently, removed FS 2 from the product specs?

Also, why aren't others out their testing this display for OP and myself? I want to know if your money was well-spent or wasted! 😀

Niice.

Not to poop your party but the first step is accepting it's limitations (I have something similar) so if you can accept black side bars on 16:9 content plus less than ideal black uniformity on something this big then I expect you'll be very happy. This kinda thing is awesome for side-by-side productivity, watching movies, and relatively high res/fps gaming.

Plus obviously a good price. Hope you enjoy :beer:

I currently run a 27" TN 1080 potato display that I bought on sale for about $170.

I think I will be fine, joining ~2012 for the first time.
 
Display arrived on Friday...I was vacationed so only replying now, lol. Currently stuck on my 280X, so only minimal testing until my new Nitro+ Vega 64 arrives sometime this week....take "testing" loosely, because I have no idea what I'm doing.

anyhoo.

--The manual, on the front page, says "AMD Freesync 2" and "HDR 10" ...None of this information can be found on the current product listing online, afaik.

--This thing is built like a Yugo. the panel isn't "really flush" to the bezel on the left and right side. Let's call it a sine wave, as you trace your finger along the edges. I feel sorry for the poor Singaporean orphan that was paid 20 cents to hammer this panel into place with a clamshell. Someone has to to fix this human tragedy. I will say though, the 3D effect created between the right scroll bar on these forums, as it so gingerly floats off the defined black bezel on this display is curious, if not interesting....It is this car, in display form
--Backlight bleed from hell. Basically, I see all the backlights everywhere, 3 across the top, and 3 across the bottom, when I have 16:9 sidebars and when switching content. I honestly don't notice it when content is displayed, so I am not ready to say that this pisses me off. Still, it pisses me off. Because I know it's there.
--I have only found 1 dead or stuck pixel so far--it was stuck on a black screen, but couldn't see it in red green and blue and white. ...so I assume it isn't really dead. Problem is that it's basically stage left and slightly south, just where all of my NPC's snatches will be oriented. I will have to research if this can be fixed....
--Haven't tried Freesync yet or any games--waiting for the new card before I update drivers and have only been playing FF13: LIghtning Returns for the last week or 2. ...Weird kick that I've been in, but I strangely enjoy this game. ...it sorta plays at 2k (doesn't allow 3440x1440), but I'm in the sub ~20fps with this 280X, lol.
--It's better than my previous display, at a decent price. SCORE!
 
Sounds dodgy. I would certainly take some pics of the offending issues though in case anything gets worse or whatever, so you have all the evidence to present for a return. Also if you bought from eBay (as I recall), a return is pretty hassle-free.

The ol' panel lottery is still definitely a thing.

A lot of reviews mentioned the issue with the panel not being flush with the bezel on the sides, so I'm not sure much can be done about that--I'm assuming it would lead to multiple returns and might never find the perfect display. I doubt that exists with this kind of value-priced piece of hardware. I'm noticing a lot of flicker when I scroll up or down (web) and as you suggested earlier, when running around in HL2--every step causes a bit of obnoxious flicker. ...I'm assuming this is a refresh-rate issue? I have it set to 100hz on the display, through Windows, and through Catalyst...though Catalyst did throw up an error, saying something like "Display Port" not connected...which supports my theory. I have it connected via display port to my 280X, and either this DP cable is not 1.2 (the cable does matter, right? there was no indication on the package or on the cable that makes this obvious) or my 280X isn't supporting DP 1.2 (I honestly haven't checked yet...also haven't updated drivers in maybe 2-4 years. I'm like that.) ...but that is just for 100hz. I would think that DP 1.2 only matters with Adaptive Sync on, right? I haven't tried it yet (well, I did--but it didn't fix the flicker).
