Is this the best way to get power to all components?

Hey all.

Well I just succumbed to a deal at CompUSA for a $40 (after MIR  ) 160GB Seagate Barracuda which should set me up for RAID at some point here when I have time to mess around with that. My question is this:

My System has a GeForce 6800 GT which included a separate brightly-colored insert in the packaging saying that this graphics card should be the only thing on its power cable and it included a y-cable/extension to help make that easier to do. At this point I have my computer wired with the graphics card on it's own as requested, and my two hard drives, my DVD burner, and my two 120 mm cooling fans all connected to the other power lead (I still can't believe I got everything to reach).

Is this an optimal or even acceptable way to have it set up or should I move the burner or a hard drive to the other cable with the video card despite the manufacture's recommendations? How much can you safely put on one lead coming from the power supply? Also, will I still be okay if I add a DVD-ROM too?

Personally I like having my video card and harddrive(s) on their own lines to reduce the risk of a power failure.

What power supply do you have? I imagine it'd have enough connectors to handle all those items.

Haha, I never even though about which cables were going to which components. I think I might have to redo my PSU connections and thus my tie-off job as well.

Sigh.

I haven't been having tangible problems, though, so maybe I'll wait to see if anyone says whether or not this is a really big concern...

I have a Seasonic SuperSilent 400W active PFC PSU. Having enough connectors on there would be no problem if not for the recommendation by eVGA that the video card get its own power lead. I still managed to run everything else through the other one although if I add the extra DVD-ROM I've been planning to I might have a problem. Seems a little ridiculas to have to do it this way.

No, it will be fine if you share the power cord with the video card..... there reccomendations are always higher then they need to be.....

I had my two Raptors and a Geforce 6800GT all hooked up to the same lead, it had no preformance hit on the card....

I think what thier trying to say is dont share the same connector (ie, dont split the molex connector that goes to the video card so that it also powers a Cold Cathode, or a fan, etc)
