I'm running at 161mhz FSB @ 1.6v according to my BIOS.. this board really overvolts.

Is 39/56 average for this voltage? I just picked up a Vantec Aeroflow heatsink, and I'm seeing a difference of a whole 1C here compared to the retail heatsink, and this thing is just about as loud too 🙁
 
You should be seeing a larger difference to the vantec heatsink from the retail one. Did you apply a thin-even layer of heatsink compound?

Also if you are getting temps from mobo monitor, that is rarely 100% accurate. Though I've heard the asus does run the cpu's hotter, that 56c isn't a temp I'd be comfortable with.
 
I installed the HS on my lunch break today and was in a bit of a rush.. maybe I need to grab some alcohol, wipe the old stuff off and start over again.. doh :/
