I was seeking a small laptop for 1st year university and i found this one
click!

Is this one decent to compare with other laptops?

Do you guys think i should buy newone or used one for this laptop?

it's quite expensive;

Don't expect that 1.2 LV processor to be comparable to a 1.73 or 1.86 centrino. You'll get great battery life on that laptop but you will notice some lag in Windows, atleast I do with my Pentium M 758 ULV (1.5 gigs) in an IBM tablet. As long as your willing to compromise some processing power for a light laptop with good looks, that one should be fine.

Sony laptops are pretty but they are very unreliable.
We order 27 and within 1 year 17 had been send back for some reason.
Granted this was almost 4 years ago, but I just swore off them since.
My sister got one anyway and I have had to fix it (hardware replacement) twice in the last -14 months, so I doubt they got any better.

Why is it so expensive? Is it because it has the word Sony on it? IMO that's a hefty price tag for specs that are mediocre at best. You could no doubt get a Dell that's very portable and with plenty of computing power for much less. You can do better IMO, much better.

Read some reviews on it. An ultraportable isn't just about the specs. Up to 9 hour battery life, weighs 3lbs, wireless WAN, georgeous screen, no fan (quiet), so light and tiny yet still manage to squeeze in a DVD writer. It's perfect if you are a frequent traveller.

I did a lot of research on ultraportables and finally snagged this one up. Can't wait to get it

Hm good points Dave. Like how much more portable are we talking than a 13/14" lappy? Didn't realize it was 10" at first. The price still has me scratching my head but I suppose it is using low voltage parts, so they probably cost more since most people would be buying the regular parts. I'm just leary of the Sony markup, my cousing used to work for an electronics store and he told me what the markup was there, it was a bit scary! 🙂

Just got mine today delivered 🙂 I'll take some pictures later next to my 14" Dell D600 for comparison. The thing is TINY! I'm loving it so far

The screen is absolutely georgeous and very glad I went with it. Note that the keyboard is undersized so if you plan on writing a book on it, it is probably not a good idea. It's a very good travel notebook, but if you plan on running games or high cpu intensive programs it is probably not good for that either.

Depends on your needs I guess. K back to play with it some more 🙂

Here are a couple pictures of it next to my Latitude D600 (14inch)

After using it for a day, I'm loving it even more! I highly recommend this laptop for someone looking for an ultraportable. The machine is silent and the optical drive is very quiet compared to other notebooks I have used.

Here's a more detailed review from NotebookReview.com

We have used Dell Inspiron 600M notebooks for our students for the past 2 years.
The Centrino 2.0 and the 64MB video w/ 1GB RAM are recommended. The video card is not upgradeable, but quite suitable with our Vegas Video 6.0.
We recommend the 7k60 HDD for maindrive and use the media bay with another 7k60, for digital video work.
We use the original HDD as a USB external for transferring files.
We have good luck using the 600Ms and if you're looking for a well-built practical laptop, we recommend the Inspiron. (The Dell Latitude D600 is the same unit)
PS We fix Dell Laptops for our students and the Vaio is more complex. We have worked on both. Get the Dell.
