Is this some kind of Buffer Overflow?

Hi,
I have a LAN with Internet access for over 10 people, the Internet passes through my computer first (i act as a server or ISP for them), recently there's someone on the network who sends a LOT of requests to port 2869 on my computer, i searched and found that it's something to do with UPnP, actually i don't know a lot in Networking, but anyway, i don't have UPnP installed in the first place, so what's going on please?

Basically since you don;t have it installed and you computer are still having that port open and it's still being active so it is getting data from one of the ten computers. Just close the ports that you do not need at all. This should help. I ain;t an expert as well. Just my 0.02

You could also limit the ports that they can use such as BT, HTTP, FTP and whatever turns you on and disable everthing else. This should greatly if not vastly improve the issue.

thanks for the reply man, actually i never use Firewalls or Anti-BLABLABLA, hehe, a principle , anyway, how can i close the port if i don't have a Firewall, i closed it using Bandwidth Controller, which i use to run the server, but still, the computer responds to his requests on that port, first of all, i closed BitTorrent for this guy cause he killed us with it, so now he uses zero KB/s, only 10K whenever he browses, but that thing bothers me, he's an expert in computers (not networks), he works at IBM, he's my friend too (not that close, we have our differences), i'm only an Aerospace Engineer, so i don't know what he can do, anyway, any suggestions guys?

You really need to be running a firewall. Otherwise maybe disabling PnP.

There are known buffer overflows in PnP. You could actually have a worm and are actively propogating it on the internet.

Most times its best to be a "good internet citizen" and firewall your connection so that you don't become a hot bed of "bad stuff"

Alrighty how you open and close the ports will vary in the degree of the OS that you have and just let me know which one do you have and I'll be sure to look the method up for ya.

Closing ports is easy, stop the listening program.

Run a firewall. Run anti-virus software. Get a SOHO router device.

thanks man, i actually stopped the UPnP service and this stupid thing stopped immediatly, thanks again
