40-60 seconds to encode an average length song from wav to 256-320 VBR MP3 using LAME 3.91 (using RazorLAME)?

I have a Tbird 1.333 (266 fsb variety), btw. It seems kinda slow to me, 40 seconds?

On my 800MHz Celery, the LAME 3.92 alt-presets work at about 2x real-time. Looks like you are getting 4-5x real-time so things are alright.

Thanks for the replies.

That's odd, I really thought it strange for it to take that long. Oh well.

Exactly, you can't compare encoding WMAs on a P4 to encoding VBR MP3s on a Tbird. Try encoding the same thing and compare... I wanna see if I'm actually getting reasonable rates here or not.

Your encoding times are about par from my experiences. Isn't the quality of Lame worth the wait??

I think that sounds about right. My P3 1Gig does average length tracks in about 70~110 seconds (depending on the complexity) when using --alt-preset standard.
