I was thinking of going for a 3400 but the difference between that and the 3500 is 50 bucks and i was going to buy hl2 anyway and it comes with the 3500 so it was worth it.

I wont be overclocking so thats why i didnt get a 3000 or a 3200.

Overall is this a good pc at a decent price. Any suggestions are taken into consideration.

pretty good. I like it all but the memory. With what you have to me it wouldn't be worth the extra money for the faster RAM. Go with some Corsair Value select or the Mushkin Value RAM both around 135-140 and both perform great.

Im so confused about memory these days.. I here alot of people saying that value ram is good to get and low latency ram isnt worth it and vice versa. Can someone tell me why low latency ram isnt worth it? And also anything else about my setup? thanks

Timings make no performance difference (well, okay, less than 3% in virtually all cases).
You don't need to overclock the RAM even if you're overclocking the CPU on an A64 (see sticky in the CPU/OC forum). (FWIW to you, almost all Winchester 3000 and 3200 chips will do 2.2GHz--3500+ speed--on stock voltage. 2.4 is often done under that condition as well--that's the clockspeed of an FX-53. The stock cooler is more than sufficient for overclocking, though it may not be the quietest possible when doing that.)

Technically I can't tell you why it isn't worth it, but I can tell you it isn't worth it from experience. In the past I bought this Mushkin Level2 RAM that was 350+ for a Gig of it. It was 2-2-2 and was just about the best on the market, well I change out computer parts every couple of weeks, somewhere along the line I had bought a SFF and bought a extra 1GB of Corsair Value Select (the 2.5 CAS version). One day I was doing some OCing to see what the SFF would do so I put in my expensive Mushkin RAM to do the test and put the VS (Value Select) in my main machine and saw no difference what so ever, I mean none. The only thing I have found VS RAM won't do very much of is over clock. I have owned probably 5 or 6 GB of the VS and the best any of them will do is 220-230 FSB Which is great if you want that little extra, and of course you can always change the ratios if you want more from your CPU. I currently am running the Mushkin VS RAM and it works great, I have also owned the Corsair and it works great as well. If you aren't going to OC, save the money and get the VS.

You're not really being ripped off. I wouldn't have recommended that particular board myself, but it's the only one available in that combo you want. (If you decide not to get the HL2 deal, try an Epox EP-9NDA3+, or MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum.) They also don't have any Winchesters available in there, and if you change your mind about overclocking (it's easy, and if you have a brain and common sense you won't fry anything, trust me ), the 90nm cores will do this a little better than the Newcastles.

I second this, you aren't getting ripped off, the price does seem to jump quite a bit when you stick 400 dollar video cards in your cart doesn't it . TS recommended my two favorite nf3 boards!! I sadly have owned them both and really liked the EPoX, it was the best packaging I have ever seen, no to mention that it took my 3000+ to 2.65GHz !!! (with the help of the Thermalright xp-90!!!)
