I haven't assembled it yet, but have all the parts. I wanted to build a computer mainly for gaming but for a decent price and this is my first attempt building my own computer, and now that I've finally decided on specs I would like to hear some opinions from people that have built a computer or 2, are any of the choices bad, why? Thanks

Specs:
p4 2.6 800fsb
ATI Radeon 9800 np
Abit IS7 i865
512mb Geil pc3200 DDRAM
120 GB Western Digital
Aspire XDREAMER Case w/350w

Where are you going to buy a 9800 NP? Unless of course you already have one...

Looks good though. Should be fine for gaming.

Change the RAM to 1GB. Games are becoming more and more resource heavy and a gig of ram is becoming the norm now.

I agree...more ram would be a good idea. Otherwise a nice system.

System looks good. There isn't a game out there that you can't play at high resolutions with that setup.

You need 1GB of RAM if you are truly serious about having a legitimate gaming rig.

Yup, up it to a gig. If you can't afford it, buy a cheaper video card. I'd think a 9600/9700 with a gig would be better than a 9800 with 512meg. Go with matched sticks of HyperX or something.

I think the consensus is clear: get 1 gig of RAM!

And DGath, he already has the 9800 NP (third post)

Looking good :) Just another suggestion if you haven't bought an HDD yet: locally sold drives are much cheaper when on sale than compared to online vendors. Something like 120GB can be had for ~$60 every once in a while (run by the Hot Deals thread sometimes).

naw get 2 gigs ;)

Why 2 when you can have 4? :D

Why get 4 when you can have 8??

Bill

This is beginning to sound like back in the day of the 486s... 2MB > 4MB > 8MB > 16MB

[/reminisce] Ahh, the good ol' days of 16MB ram! [/reminisce]

Can't imagine ever having 16GIGs of RAM on our desktops, though that day will probably come in our lifetime (if not within the next 5 years)

If you up the ram to a gig, then you are good to go! I just recently built a very similar system (P4 2.6C Abit IS7) and I love it!
