If you did fine in HS CS classes then 315 will be a breeze. It's a lot of programming, but very easy. I think the hardest assignment all semester took me tops 5 hours to do. 313 will be hit or miss, you will either love it or hate it, lots and lots of proofs.

Chem 301 is a joke as well, you'll have weekly multiple choice homeworks, and 3-4 exams throughout the semester whose questions come right from the homeworks. Exact same situation for 408D, just make sure you goto those classes and get the homeworks done.

I made the mistake of not taking a variety of courses early on, so my suggestion is to be less focused.

Sorry, I probably should have clarified. The first number is the hours while the second and third are the course level. Anything under say a 20 is lower level and above is upper level.

Such a complicated system. What happened to just sub-100 for lower divs, 100+ for upper, and 200 for grad?

I've never heard of that system. I thought it was more typical for lower division classes to be 100s and 200s, and upper division classes are 300s and 400s. 100s would typically be taken in your first year, 200s in your second year, etc - of course that often doesn't happen, but usually you're taking classes within one year of your year.

Isn't LOGIC, SETS, & FUNCTIONS UT's name for Discrete Math?

That class and Algorithms & Data Structures should be fun.

Ah, if that's true, have fun. ;) I'm pretty good with math (790 SAT Math), but I struggled to get an A in discrete math.

In first year (and every year up to 4th) I had 25-30 hours of class, tutorials and labs a week...

Im pretty sure Discrete Math is M 325K at UT. 313K is much more theory based.

I might reconsider on the foreign language, the other 4 will keep you busy. I signed up for 5 classes my first semester (which is very similar to yours) and my advisor convinced me to drop my 5th class. That was a great idea. If you plan to graduate in 4 years, expect to take 3 core in-major CS classes every semester. This by itself will keep you busy, but the 4th class can give some balance.

As far as the specific courses, I heard first semester chem is cake if you took it in HS. 315 is also cake if you have any sort of OOP experience, like HS AP CS course or something. You are taking second semester calc, so im guessing you placed out of 408C. You probably wont have much difficulty, assuming you didnt struggle before.

Logic is the only class that can really mess with your head. That might have been one of the toughest classes in the whole curriculum for. Pay attention and dont try to just squeak by bc there are 2 more classes further along that build upon this stuff, so you gotta learn it sooner or later.

UTCS 2004 grad, im sure some stuff has changed since i went through. do your best to get the best profs in each subject... its worth it
