I live in india.

Here, many of the hi-def T.v's available are not available and if they are available they are priced too exorbitantly, hence,it took me a lot of time to find a good FULL HD lcs tv.

Hence, coming to the main motive of the thread.

Is this lcd tv good :-

It is a samsung series 5 Lcd tv.

Samsung LA32A550P1

Also,It is available for ~ $1350 here.

All the other FULL HD lcd tv's that are 40" are more than ~ $ 2700.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, had another confusion if these kind of tv's are good (Not FULL HD) :-

http://www.sony.co.in/product/...%2Bin5?site=hp_en_IN_i

also what is the 3lcd technology and does it look Good.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will mainly be using it to play games on Playstation 3.

Waiting for your opinions.

Thanks in Advance.

I don't see why you're requiring 1080p on a 32" LCD - 720p should be just fine, and you'd save yourself a ton of money by going with it.

Agreed about 720p. Don't get caught up in the "full hd" marketing crap. You don't need 1080p on a tv that small. It doesn't make a difference.

On the other hand, I have the 46" Samsung in that series, and it's a great tv. Depending on what tv's cost over there, it may be a good buy for you. But I think it's a good tv because the colors are rich, and it handles standard definition content very well...not because it is 1080p.

To answer the OP's question, yes the 5 series samsungs are very good TVs, and particularly probably the best 32" TV you can buy.

As far as 1080p, at 32" it might not be required for video watching unless you sit quite close to the screen, but if you ever hook up a computer to it, 1080p is a must, as 720p as a computer display just looks bad. Besides the trend for all TV's is heading to 1080p, and if 1350 is a good deal, there is no reason not to get that TV and keep it for the long run.

Both 1080p (1920x1080) and 720p (1366x768 or 1280x720) will display 1024x768, either stretched or pixel/pixel or scaled.. However nowadays having only 720 or 768 vertical lines on a computer display is just way to small in my opinion. I wouldnt go smaller than 1280x1024 or 1680x1050, and even the cheapest monitors these days do those resolutions at default.

The main reason I suggest 1080p for computer use is it essentially has the same vertical space as a 19"LCD or 20"Widescreen LCD monitor, but has much more horizontal, and in the end, vertical space is more important for computer usage.

so would i then have a cleaner/crisper look with a higher reso. on 1080p 1280x1024 versus 720p 1024x768? Will i notice the difference on a 32" LCD 1080p/720p set if I also plan on using this with my computer hooked up? I trying to decide on my purchase, thanks!

For a cleaner/crisper look you will need to have the display set to native resolution. Setting a display to its non-native resolution causes interpolation and stretching/skewing to make it fit, or forces black bars around things.

Whether you run 1024x768 on a 1080p or 720p (768P) display, it will look stretched out and blurry, so to effectively get crisp/clean you need to run it at exactly its native resolution.

The advantage of 1920x1080 over 1280x720 is how much you can fit on the screen. Basically if you had a 720p 32in TV and a 1080p 32in TV, everything on the 1080p would physically appear smaller, making it so you can fit alot more on screen. Also if you opened a detailed image fullscreen on either computer, you would be able to make out more detail at 1080p.

In my opinion, 720p for viewing movies/TV is generally not at much of a loss compared to 1080p. However for computer usage and blu-ray 1080p starts to show significant improvements. Honestly I think 1920x1080 is great for computer usage, but 1280x720 is just sucky and way too small to really be functional for daily use.
