When sending out a mailing to a lot of people you should ALWAYS use the BCC field, especially in a professional environment.

Also, just about any form of revenge is immature.

When it's a group of people working on one project (and the e-mail is a group e-mail) why would you use BCC?

IMO it's only used when there's a good reason for not wanting the rest of the group to know who got the e-mail. Worrying that a coworker might spam you is not a good reason.

What's so hard about putting the group in the BCC field?
What if some dude on the list starts stalking her by email? It can happen.

How am I the moron? I haven't done anything yet... And this is only one of three emails she sent us (I'm not Neil).. The rest were equally snotty and we did change her to CC instead "to".. that wasnt' good enough for her..

You are a moron because you don't know how to use a computer and you can't read.

Try dealing with hundreds of emails a day... Petty requests like these go unoticed but attitudes are noticed.. Why the fvck would I want to work with her after receiving this email? It's her loss - I have 28 other actresses at my disposal...

She is a member of a group working on a film. She's an actress.

Actress you say? Hmmmmm sounds like a shrew that needs taming, lol. If she keeps being an obnoxious twit, just post her email addie and a headshot here. The AT effect will take of that!

She works for him, not the other way around. If she's not willing to accept the risk of dealing with her coworkers then she doesn't belong in that industry. Or any industry where e-mail is used, for that matter.

Part of working with other people is communicating with them.

Yip, I agree with your stance. You dont have the time to handle a dozen "special" request by a dozen different people. If she wants to continue to get updates/information on the film project she gets those updates on your terms. If she doesnt like that then she doesnt get the updates/info. its that simple.

It's an organization that me and a producer put together... We contact students and other people who want to get together to make short films or just practice (if she wanted to do a monolouge I'd hop over to direct her and tape it, if I needed an actress I would call her...).. It's just a network of creative people..

Listen, I figured out how to do BCCs after 30 seconds of poking around.. I may or may not use it in the future.. But you guys don't understand the scope of this project -I'm not contacting one person.. I'm in constant contact with 60 people... I get a few hundred emails everyday and I'm a fulltime student - I spend 4 hours a day trying to get through these emails and sometimes I can't fulfill every request (and sometimes I can't read an email for a few days)... I have a producer on hand to help me know but, still.. She crossed the line.. It's odd that you guys can't see that.. Would you write your boss an email like that? Neil, our producer, is a guy who puts countless time into this project for OUR (the groups) benefit - not mine... I don't even know the guy but he's doing this for the love of film, he doesn't need that attitude..

Maybe she crossed the line but aren't you being unprofessional and childish in even considering thinking about signing her up for spam mail?

You compare yourselves to being her boss, but then call it "a network of creative people." Which is it?

It sounds like you need a mailing list if you're going to form some sort of community for the trading of services.

I was kidding.. Blowing off some steam... I think I'll just post her headshot and then the headshots of the actors I'm using for my first shoot..

I'm not her boss.. Or her boss figure.. Neil is.. I'm the director and, yes, I do expect some respect as well.. Same way I'm totally respectful of the PAs...

It's not that hard to put everyone's name in BCC. I don't see how it takes you any extra effort to type the names in one field as opposed to the other. Unless she flat-out lied in the message you posted:
For the third time:
STOP PUTTING MY ADDRESS IN THE "TO:" HEADING.
PUT IT IN THE "BCC:" BOX.
She has already asked more than once and you still have not complied with her request. I don't think her anger is unwarranted.

Oh, and from a seasoned actor to a green director - respect is earned. Did you audition to be a director? Do you have an Academy Award or some other accolade? I'm thinking no. You have a right to expect cooperation from the start. You do not have a right to expect any respect whatsoever - no one does, director, actor, production staff, no one.

Maybe if you spent some time learning how to use such complex features as BCC you would be spending less than 4 hours (yea right) a day on email

We cut and paste the names.. We work with a dynamic list that changes every day. SURE, we could put everyone on the BCC list - but some people actually like knowing other people's email addresses.. Sure, I can put stickies on my monitor saying "Remember to put Cheryl in the BCC list" but after I while I'll have a few hundred stickies on my monitor... I screened the list.. there are no spam bots, there are no creeps.. I'm not giving out phone numbers.. I even asked people to make email addresses to dedicate to this project.. I told her and everyone else BEFORE they signed up that they would get mass mails (it was mentioned in the application... )

Just put everyone's name in the BCC. Problem solved. In fact, the directors I work with never expose the e-mail addresses on their lists....

You say there is no riffraff on the list, but all it takes is one jackass to get a virus and that's that.

Point taken.. I may very well do that.. What pissed me off is not her request but her tone.... oh well..

She was pretty rude, I agree, but if I had already asked twice, I'd probably have used a lot more colorful language than she did. :)
