OK, since I'm making these short films my producer and I have to send out massmails sometimes... We've only send 3 out so far yet this one actress is being a total bitch about getting massmails.. I've already deleted her from our list but I thought it would be very ironic to sign her up for some barnyard-sex type mailing lists... Is that a bit too immature? OK, i know it's immature but she really pissed me off.. here's her email.. (We CC her but outlook does not have a BCC option.. we tried, she still bitched)..

The actors that we WILL be using for our first project (Cheryl wasn't one of them-maybe that's why she's so pissed?)

Dear Neil:

For the third time:

STOP PUTTING MY ADDRESS IN THE "TO:" HEADING.

PUT IT IN THE "BCC:" BOX.

This ought not to be a Mensa test. When you mass mail everyone, and include our addresses in the "To:" heading, you risk putting everyone who wantS to work with you on a spamming list. Or several. I assume you did not perform rigorous screening tests, to weed out any disreputable hucksters who might have responded to your Craigslist notice.

I will be very unhappy if I have to change e-mail addresses again because I end up with a mailbox full of crap again. I will explain how to guard against this, for the third time:

Instead of hitting the blue "To:" box at the top of the page when you address your mass e-mailings, hit the blue "Bcc:" box. That way, none of your recipients can find out the other recipients' e-mail addresses. "Bcc," incidentally stands for BLIND carbon copy.

I know I am anal about this, but it will be very annoying to have to get in touch with all my legitimate contacts and tell them to change my e-mail address, because my old one, the one shallowwastebin/slackerinabox gave out repeatedly to five dozen strangers, became strangled with crap.

Thank you.

What a bitch. No, all revenge is immature - but it's still worth it.

You should be ashamed of yourself to sign up someone for spam email. She has the right to refuse spam from you.

If someone killed off my race of people because of an intergalactic conspiracy, I would sure as hell like to seek some revenge.

I gotta side with Cheryl on this ... and you'd be even more of an ass to sign her up for spam.

It's not what she asked for the bothered me - it's how... And Neil is the nicest guy out there - he was only trying to keep everyone in the loop... Oh well..

I have to agree with her as well.

When sending out a mailing to a lot of people you should ALWAYS use the BCC field, especially in a professional environment.

Also, just about any form of revenge is immature.

If she really has asked you three times, then I can see why she would be frustrated. You really should not be exposing everyone's email like that, so her concern is justified.

because i hate it when people who you gave your email to abuse it by sharing it with others who you did not authorize them to share it with. its begging for spam. or harassment. or whatever. if you have to send out to a mailing list and you don't have permission to share the emails with others (which you don't) then the to field should be blank or your email, and the bcc field should have all the names. it makes me mad when people do it to me, so i completely agree with cheryl. and yes outlook does have a bcc field. that

When it's a group of people working on one project (and the e-mail is a group e-mail) why would you use BCC?

IMO it's only used when there's a good reason for not wanting the rest of the group to know who got the e-mail. Worrying that a coworker might spam you is not a good reason.

That's exactly my point! I have 60+ volunteers (from an initial pool of 200).. If I started taking requests from everyone we wouldn't get any work done... Now if she asked nicely and if I had some time to set up outlook properly I would have.. Well, i'm venting. I won't sign her up for any spam.,.

WTF???

It's had one for YEARS!

I just discovered it... And it wasn't three time with each of us.. I sent her 2 emails (I didn't even read her "bcc me!" email - I get a few hundred replies a day) and Neil only sent her one..

And this is a group effort.. People have been weeded out and I explained that we will be working as a team - if they don't want to get their name listed then they shouldnt' have signed up for a mailing list..

You are a moron because you don't know how to use a computer and you can't read.

lol why haven't you done this after the FIRST time she asked you? Do you not know how to use your Outlook mail ??
If you have to ask somebody to do something that is so simple 3 times, wouldn't you get a bit upset?

Maybe I'm confused about what these e-mails are for.

Are you sending updates to the status of the short film you made to friends and family or are you sending out e-mails to people helping you with a short film that you're currently making?
