Is this really a racial slur?

I'm beffuddled on this one as are my collegues. I am working with this company and we produced this video for them. Well somewhere in the video a guy says this woman "fell out" in the context of she "fell out" of consciousness. They are now telling us "fell out" has a negative racial connotation, but they wont tell us how it does or why it does. I've never heard of this term used negatively before, neither has anyone else i know. We are from the western US though, the company dealing with from the eastern us, so maybe that has something to do with it. Anyone else heard of this?

If it does have a negative usage I'm really sorry, its just this means reshooting video (which is not cheap) and we are trying to figure out what is going on here and whats so wrong with the word. Is it along the same lines with the n-word? Looked it up on urbandictionary and its usage seems similar to what we used it for...

As a white guy married to a black woman....I've no clue how "fell out" is a negative racial statement.

WTF?!? That's so absurd that I think i have to bang my head against a wall after reading that. I can't even invent a way to make "Fell out" be offensive, and I have a pretty high propensity for being offensive.

Never heard of "fell out" having any sort of racial overtones to it at all...

Maybe they misheard it and thought it was "sell out"????? 😕

"Sell out" doesn't even have any racial overtones because it is used across everything from sports to music to art to business to politics...

Can't you do like what they do to hide swear words from movies on TV? Just dub the actress saying a different phrase over "sell out"? Granted, it may be difficult and could come across unintentionally funny like having Sheriff Buford T. Justice saying "Scum Bum" instead of "Son of a bitch" in Smokey & the Bandit.

I have never heard the term, so I haven't heard it used as a racial slur.

I'm more interested to know why they can't/won't explaint it, but think it's important enough to bring up. WTF?

yo i fell out with da gang and they put a hit on my sister and now i'm offended!

That's the closest sort of thing I can come up with, maybe they think it's mocking ebonics or something?

I have never heard of "fell out" as racial, but the other phrases you used are quite derogatory..

"as are my collegues" ... bashes the friendless

"I am working"... this isn't funny to the jobless

"used negatively "... is uncomfortable to optimists
