Is this real?

I'd say that's very possible because radiowaves can cause heat because everytime I use my cellphone the side of my face gets warm but I guess due to exponential phase stuff with 4 phones you can create a lot more heat, enough to pop a corn. Insane.

There was a thread on this awhile ago.
No, you can't do this with cellphones.
1) They don't put out enough power.
2) The cellphone's power seen by an object decreases relative to distance squared.
3) Other reasons, but I don't remember the specifics right now.

Found the thread (from 2008).
It was impossible then, and guess what, it's still impossible.🙂

Direct link to Snopes. This one deals with cooking an egg, but the idea is still the same - there's not nearly enough power coming from a cellphone to do much of anything.

Your best bet would be to wrap the popcorn kernel in thin wire, and short it out across the cellphone's battery - and hope that the battery doesn't pop (explosively so) first. 😉

Microwave = 1000W

Phone = 250mW

See the difference?

And there is more to heating water than simply throwing electromagnetic radiation at it.

I remember reading somewhere (some textbook maybe?) that microwave ovens heat water by emitting microwave radation with a frequency that matches the natural frequency of water molecules, causing them to resenonate. But then I heard that this is wrong.

The less friendly explanation, but correct one, appears to be that an oscillating E field (microwaves in this case) causes water molecules (with an electric dipole moment) to oscillate as they try to align themselves with the field.

That's due to the battery heating up your face nitwit 🙂

Actually, it's probably the electronics, and not the battery.

Put the laser down. 😛

Never! I have a custom lipstick case that has a 200mW bluray emitter in it. Comes in handy for flashing fluorescent objects at long range. 😉

You know, I think I could probably sell a Face Warmer Pad, with Exponential Phase Thermal Technology® for the low-low price of only two easy installments of $19.95.

I could...if Billy Mays was still alive. 🙁

Well sure, I mean, who doesn't need to do that all the time? 😀
