Is this RAM worth buying?

Cheap RAM

Is this RAM kit worth buying? I'm working on my first build (so far I've bought a case, yay!) and I'd like to get 2 gigs if possible. And it's possible for my budget at this price. The computer will be mostly for personal (non-professional) photo editing and web browsing, with an occasional game or dvd. So basically not bleeding-edge. Any good reason I should spend a hundred bucks more on my RAM?
I also looked at other sets on outpost, including the OCZ platinum and gold, but I've read about the voltage problems they've had with a few of the mobos (AM2) I'm considering. Anyway...any opinions? Thanks.

If you do not plan on overclocking, there is no point in getting expensive RAM. If the company selling the RAM has a good return policy, get it, and run memtest386 on it. If it works, fine, if it does not, return it.

ok arrfep give a link to online shop, it would be difficult to check memory. and the prog named testmem86 not 386, if i'm not mistaken.

I do video editing on one of my P4 machines and its got Kingston value RAM...
Running for one and a half years with no problems.

But then my wife pays extra for "premium" gas cause it costs more and
she figures it has to be better. (Engine designed for regular gas)

You convince her its a waste of money. 🙂

If that is what fits for your budget and you do not plan on overclocking (as stated above) then just go for it, though I personally remain wary of OCZ right now.

Like someone said OC is when you should buy expensive ram otherwise buy whatever. I have a e6400 OC to 3.6ghz right now and of course i couldn't have got there without expensive ddr2 memory with micron chips (g.skill). Don't worry to much about timing. I mean timing might tell you its better memory but i would not pay more memory for ram that won't overclock any better but has ultra low timing.

Value RAM's fine. I've sometimes been surprised - Muskin's value RAM worked fine on the notoriously picky DFI LANParty board after it chucked four sticks of premium Kingston and Corsair.

Run MEMTEST on them when you get it - if it runs fine on your mobo, you're golden.
