I would like to buy an ati 5850 and leave it at stock. Get an i3 and overclock it to ~ 4 ghz if I can.

Will the basiq power antec 430 watt psu be enough to power all this ?

Thx

depends what you are doing.

I think if you fold at home with the GPU it might drain all the watts out of it - figuratively speaking. I know Furmark can really suck up the juice.. anyone care to give valuable input on that hypothetical setup of his, thanks.

I think it would be close. I have a more beefy system than what you are building and i think 430 would be close. I'm not one to run a PS close to its ratings. If you want to be sure without going ahead and buying another power supply, check into a kill a watt. With it, You can build your system like you want and then check your own power draw and then decide. May save you money or cost you $20 more.

The guy above me makes a valid point. Those extremely taxing GPU apps draw a bit more than you would normally see.

Power supply's efficiency rating usually varies with load depending on the quality of the PS. In my point of view, The reason I said I don't usually run my PS close to the ratings is for the longevity of it. It will run hotter. Heat cuts the lifetime of components. Others may disagree

You can also go to your local Lowes or Home Depot and they have a similar item that reads the watt loads from an appliance or pc plugged into a wall.. similar price.. i bought one and it works dandy
