Is this power supply enough to run a 5870 and i5-750 build?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to build a new system in the near future; here are the parts I’m looking to get:

CPU:i5-750
RAM: 2 Sticks 2GB DDR3
Case: Antec Three Hundred (Has a few case fans preinstalled)
Video Card: Single 5870
DVD-Burner
2 WD 7200 2TB Black Drives
Regular Micro ATX or ATX Motherboard (nothing High end)
22" LCD Monitor

I'm looking at this power supply to power these parts:

Is this enough? Apparently it's 80 Plus compliant:

Thanks.

No, it doesn't provide power enough.
It's recommended a 500W PSU which presents two PCIe connectors.

Here you have some good options from Newegg:

OCZ Fatal1ty 550W (modular and made by Sirtec) ... 47$ (after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=ocz%20550
OCZ ModXStream 600W (modular and made by Sirtec) ... 50$ (after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341017
OCZ StealthXStream 2 600 W (by FSP) ... 60$ (after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341039
XFX XXX Edition 650W (modular and made by Seasonic) ... 70$ (after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817207007
CORSAIR TX650 650W (by Seasonic) ... 72$ (after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

If you choose the model from XFX you will be able to handle even two 5870 in CF without having to use any molex-to-PCIe adapter.

You can find some information and qualified reviews about these and others PSUs in this link: http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page541.htm

Thanks very much guys, that Tuniq power supply seems to be priced just right for me. I've never heard of them though, guess I’ll do some research.

Thanks again for your help I really appreciate it.

the 12v rail looks a tad weak on the antec basiq, but there is no reason a good 450w with a good 12v rail wouldn't be able to handle it.

that being said the basiq might be able to hand the 5870
er nvm doesn't look like the basiq has enough power connectors 😵 <PCI-Express Connector 1 x 6-Pin>

Considering even a good PSU will degrade with age, I would not want to use even the best 450W unless it was a beefier supply that had been underrated.

Found a review of the Tuniq, not the best but also not a cheap PoS apparently: http://www.bigbruin.com/2009/tuniqpotency_1

Considering the price of the other components you have though I'd go for at least the OCZ.

slighly off topic, but i wonder if there's a chart detailing generally how fast a psu degrades, it's based on the capacitors right?

It's plenty. Most people don't realize that you really don't need that powerful of a PSU.

With that said, why not go with a cheaper PSU that also has good reviews and has a higher power output at a better price?

The one that you posted is good as well. I would chose the 500 watt OCZ ModXStream (I think that's what it's called). Its $32 with a discount and rebate @ Newegg till tomorrow.
