can i do a peer to peer setup at 1000mbps or no? if so what kind of cabling would be required for transferring large data files (50 +mb) back and forth?
 
yes, its possible... Y wouldn't it be?

if your talking about only two computers without a gigabit switch or whatever inbetween you'll need a crossover cable, and if memory serves the gigabit crossovers are different... U should look it up, and I would not recommend making your own when it comes to something as sensitive as gigabit.
