Is this possible?

I've been looking around and does anyone know where to get a small form factor barebone computer with a motherboard that has 8x agp and supports intel pentium 4 800fsb?

I don't think there would be a big difference in performance b/t a SFF board w/8xAGP and a SFF board w/4xAGP. 🙂

I think 8xagp is still a bit of overkill for most games and the added bandwidth may not pay off in any noticeable increase in performance. I know it is good to be ready for the future of gaming, but I don't think they model these SFF factors for that type of market of users...

Here are several mobos:
Intel Pentium 4 (800 FSB) Micro ATX Motherboard Model BOXD865GLC - RETAIL - ne (newegg) no. N82E16813121198 .

MSI Motherboard for Intel Processors Model 865G 865GM2 LS Retail - ne no. N82E16813130425 .

Intel Pentium 4 (800 FSB) Micro ATX Motherboard Model D865GLCL - OEM - ne no. N82E16813121197 .

ASUS Micro ATX Motherboard for Intel Pentium 4 / Celeron Processors, 800Mhz FSB Model# P4P800-VM Retail - ne no. N82E16813131460 .

There are yet more on newegg. Put one of them together with the fine Athenatech small case: Athenatech Micro ATX Case w/ 200W Power Supply, Model A100SC.200 - Retail - ne no. N82E16811190003 and you're on your way.

whoa thanks a lot zepper, I was leaning toward a Shuttle SB61G2 but wasn't sure about the 320.00 price

I think I might have to go with that setup, do you know if that case is quiet and cooled?

AGP8x is a complete gimmick. Read some reviews comparing GPUs at 4x and their 8x refreshes there isn't any difference. Not to mention the fact that 3GIO (PCI Express) is about to completely replace AGP.

Go take a look at the pix on newegg (either click on "see it" or the little pic in the listing). It has a spot for an 80mm fan in front, comes with 2-60mm rear fans and there is room for a clever person to mod in some more cooling. I was thinking of using a 60-80mm adapter with an 80mm fan (on the outside of the back of the case) as exhaust as 60mm fans can't help but be noisy if they move any air at all.
. I don't know of any SFF systems that are really quiet OOtB, but you can make it as quiet as your wallet can afford 😉 .
. If you don't think 200W will be enough power and want a bit more room for air flow, look at the mATX mini-towers under AOpen, Evercase, Inwin, etc. w/250W PSUs. But that Athena case is just so sharp looking, at least to my eye...

One drawback of the Athena case is that it would probably limit the size of add-on cards. Cards that are higher than the top of a std. slot bracket or very long probably won't fit.
. Think ahead... Since newegg dosn't offer tech help you would probably have to call Athena direct to find out about card size limits.

the athena case doesn't seem as thin as the cases that can only fit low profile video cards, I think it should fit

yea I been researching the case and it looks very good. Do you know where I could get the option multicolor light?

Look under Accessories, Case on newegg. Or you could just buy an LED at Radio Schlock to make it whatever color(s) you want.

The space on the back looks really tight. That's why I mentioned using an adapter to mount an 80mm fan on the outside of the back in one of my earlier messages.

whoops I didn't mean 80mm fans but replace the 60mm fans with vantec stealth 60mm fans.

would you also know what size fan the psu uses?

I just read a review of the Athea A100 case on tomshardware. Check it out! And re. the PSU fan, I just saw an SAX psu like the one in the A100 that has an 80mm on the big side inside the case so I guess the openings on the back could be just to let the air out. I looked more closely at the back view of the A100 and I can't see a fan there so it could be the same.
