Considering the last 40 years have seen a 50/50 split in which party held the presidency and over 60% Dem control of the House and 55% for Senate during that time, I think they've correctly deduced that their best interests aren't being served by the establishment candidates of either party.
If they are so great at "deducing" their "best interests", why do they keep getting screwed?

Well they've friendzoned the Democratic Party and mainstream Republicans so that's a start. If would help if both sides stopped engaging in Nice Guy Syndrome and thinking they are "owed" their votes.

Good analogy, the white working class is now the political equivalent of a dumb woman who friend-zones the "nice guy" goes for the "alpha" douche, and then wonders why she gets treated like dirt and taken advantage of and where all the good men are.

LOL, sure. You guys keep on dreaming that progressives are exactly what "she" has been waiting for all along but has just been too stupid to understand it. That will surely win 'her' over.

Pretty standard thing, dumb women go for the douches when they are young, get burned every which way, then discover that nice guys have great jobs and are the way to go long term, and the jocks are losers who have no future. Smart women avoid this whole mess, but America has decided to have its fling with a douchebag now. All we can do is work and wait.

I am not sure regime supporters are doing so well in authoritarian countries. Usually, the government treats them as morons and gives them never ending promises while their standard of living keeps dropping. The way they really stay in power is by feeding apathy and division among their opposition.
Plus GOP's trickle down can be trillions, but if you remember from Bush, it doesn't work. Tax cuts and Keynesian deficit spending on war, still ended up where we ended up.

You're talking long term prospects; these people obviously don't give a shit about leaving a better or even decent place to the next gen.

They've obviously deduced that it's a zero sum game for their sort's economics and thus need to keep minorities and other competition at bay.

They don't but the "bond vigilantes" that they've been warning us all about under Obama actually showed up when Trump won and the yields spiked. If the market sees Trump as messing around with the Fed in order to monetize his porkulus, they will jack up long term interest rates.
