I purchased a retail P3 700Mhz a few month ago. As you know, the heatsink comes with a thermal pad so I decided to put some thermal compound on it instead. Also, I don't know if it's just me or not, but when you clip the heatsink to the socket there's still some movement... it was more noticable when I removed the pad and put the grease on. I left it alone anyway thinking it fine but Windows 2000 tells otherwise. So to make it short, I cut 2 of my business cards to the same shape as the CPU, of course I cut a center hole for the core to make contact with the heatsink, and place it between the CPU and heatsink. Is this OK? Will it damage my CPU in the long run? Should I buy a shim or whatever you call that piece of copper?
