I was grabbing some food about 15 minutes ago, the total was $9.18, and I gave her (the cashier) a $10 bill. She went and got my drink and gave me my food, it seemed like she thought the transaction had been completed.... I was assuming she'd get my change after getting my food. I asked her if I could have my change, and she gave me my 82 cents and said, "sorry, usually people just say keep the change."

Uhh...since when is it normal to just keep 82 cents of change?

Was it a place that folks would normally tip the server? I've run into that a few times. Cracks me up because rarely is the change even close to a normal 15% tip. The server would have received a full tip had he/she not assumed the 5% worth of change was the tip.

It was an A&W, and it was drive through. Hence why it was so odd.

You'd be suprised.

I've seen lots of engineers work in places you'd never think just because they have a hard time finding work

yeh, at a fast food drive thru i think it's strange for her to assume she got to keep the change.
