i have just built one of the ecs k7s5a/xp2000 combos with 512MB DDR ram, win2k pro, updated drivers. everything is okay with fsb issue others are having, but my problem is this - whenever i rip a cd or burn one, cpu usage goes to 100%. is this normal with this m/b? is this one of the reasons it is so cheap? i have always used via based m/b and this was not an issue. i was using the same cdrw in another machine with a 16mo old via based m/b and when i would rip or burn, cpu usage would be <10%.

Check to see whether DMA is enabled for your optical devices. You may also need an updated driver for your IDE also.
