Is this normal?

I park my well maintained car on the street. It is a 2000 camry. Only has 100k miles on it. I gave the car to my son but he is now in college and staying at the dorm so he doesn't need the car. It is his when he comes home.

My question is I have been solicited with people wanting to buy my car. First I got a note on the windshield which I threw away. This time I got a letter from a dealer wanting to purchase my car for his customer. He said from his letter that he will give me 110 percent of blue book for the car. What is weird is he knows my name and the year of the car. I never had this solicitation before.

I've received several such solicitations, and I drive and old, beat up Corolla that doesn't in any way look like a desirable purchase.

I assume that these people are trying to take advantage of current used car market by buying used economy cars for a steal from people who don't realize what they're worth.

Yeah, my Scion xA gets a $5000 offer every other month or so. It's a highly desirable car because it'll do 40MPG on the highway and can actually seat 5 people. Not sure why Toyota stopped making it. It's a 2006 with 82K miles on it, and I think the only time I had it in the shop was when I cracked the mirror off when going to an ATM.

VIN is visible from the street, I expect that or the tags would lead them to your name/address pretty easy. Certain used cars are pretty valuable right now. It'd odd but not out of the question, especially if they notice it going unused for long periods of time (perhaps they live near by).

My landlord has a couple of cars parked at the house I rent and I get people stopping by asking to buy them about once a month. Pretty common when people see a car that never/rarely moves.

With the VIN, its not too hard to reverse lookup the owners information. Used car market is very hot right now with the economy in such a dump. If you want to sell it, ask for 140% of blue book value, tell them that's what you were offered by another dealership.

The car is not in my name its my wifes name. Thats why the vin reverse lookup is odd
