Is this normal?

I was recently approved for a Citi Dividend Amex card.

I got it in the mail yesterday and activated and it went fine.

Today I get another Dividend card. At first I thought it was a duplicate but it has different acct #s.

Is this a standard procedure for Amex? Are both acct #s somehow linked to the same acct?

I didnt even think it was possible to get 2 of the same type of CC?

It could benefit me since the card has a $300 reward cap. Now possibly I could have a $600 cap.

I would normally but I know they still limit my rewards to $300 if I combine the 2.

What I am concerned about is how this will effect my credit score.

I am almost 25 and my credit score is 740.

But now I have roughly $35000 of available credit and I am using 4000 of it. I am getting 0% interest on the 4000 grand for 1 year.

FYI, each card has a 7200 CL.

It'll barely affect it (2-3pts). And eventually it'll go up since you have a larger line of credit to work with.

Hmmm so you think I should just go ahead and activate the 2nd card?

I wonder what that avg. total credit is for a 25 year old.

Thx for the input.

it is possible since I did it at 3am.

I just figured they would catch sending 2 of the same CC to someone.

Having the additional card with a high credit line is good for you.

Ideally you want to keep your total credit utilization between 3 and 7%-- enough to show you are using them and handling them responsibly, but not enought to show that you are overly-reliant on them or nearing a financial crisis.

No it's not normal.

You can have two CitiBank Dividend cc's, I have two since the reward limit is $300 per account ;)

It's definitely a mistake either on their part or yours.

You might want to ask them to convert one of the amex accounts to MC, since Amex isn't accepted everywhere.

I meant I guess this is a good kind of mistake :) I will call and activate it now.

Thanks for the input everyone.
