Is this normal?

When XP starts up I get a balloon saying I have no firewall. It goes away. Do other people get this? I'm a little worried I have some exploit or something that makes me think the firewall is enabled even though it's not.

If anyone knows of a good trojan detector, let me know.

Could it be the firewall service hasnt started hence the error message, then it starts and the error message goes away?

That's what I suspect, but that's sloppy isn't it if it allows an internet connection without starting the firewall... I wonder if other people have this happen or it's just me.. :-/

The firewall in SP2 is actually brought up before the network connection is turned on so it's probably not that. Did you have another 3rd party firewall installed before you used the SP2 one?

Yep. I had Kerio installed. But now it's uninstalled. :-/

I say just disable the security service. IMO it is just annoying and is not needed if you know what you are doing.

Go to the Control Panel, then Click the Security Center and make sure the firewall is actually activated.

Yep. I had Kerio installed. But now it's uninstalled. :-/

I'm willing to bet that there are files still there from the uninstall like a virtual driver. It must be loading after you login and Windows detects this as the firewall not working then disappears when the built-in firewall tells WMI that it's actually on.

How would I find out which files are doing this?
I've purged the registry. I don't think there's any kerio dirs left...
