DSL hasn't been available in my area. I was curious saturday 4-5 and checked my number on the Verizon website. It said it was available, so I called Verizon, they verified and I placed an order. I recieved a service ready date of monday 4-14, my install kit came wednesday 4-9.

I installed the kit, and my ready light kept blinking. No problem, I just waited for the SRD. SRD rolls around, no-go, still blinking. I call Verizon, they tell me the ticket says "in progress" and to wait until monday 4-21 and call back if it isn't on then.

I havent recieved any kind of ready notification, either.

I'm just wondering what are the chances of DSL actually not being available? Are these waiting times normal? Can anybody with "connections" check it out? And maybe most important, am I getting too worked up? ;)

Actually, when I first got DSL (end of 2000) I had to wait a week for my dsl line to be activated. This was with our local phone company, not a large nationwide one... I'd imagine that is normal. Though no convenient for you.

When I had DSL set up a couple years back I first got the kit, installed it and waited. The service start date came and went and still the lights kept blinking. I called SBC (then SNET) and they checked the line and said that they weren't getting a signal from my house, so it was a problem here. I live in a town house which is a bunch of apartment-like houses linked together with a central phone system in the basement. When they came to check out the problem they found there was some kind of device sitting on my line (and my line only), they took it off and the DSL worked. I wonder what that was... =D

Ooh, progress? All of a sudden, my dial-up started connecting at speeds like 16k, and the DSL modem's ready light will start blinking a bit faster, but not go steady. It starts blinking regularly again.

Obviously they delayed your ready date. This happened to me back when i ordered VerizonDSL in Dec02. My ready day wad delay week by week, I called them every week to complain, all they can tell me its been delayed, gave me 2 free months and deal with it. So i just stopped calling after a month. Then after 3 months, in March the green light finally came up..then i knew it was finally ready. 3 months of wait for 2 extra free month of service is what i got. good or bad, you'll be the judge
