Well, so schmoe came in a dropped a hefty chunk of change for new system at my work today (reseller/custom builder shop)

So, we get in the 3700+ San Diego, 2 x 1gb Crucial memory, Asus A8N SLI Premium, 250gb WD SATA, Plextor DVDRW, and a nice big fat MSI NX7800GTX PCI-E.

Setup everything, and run 3dmark05 only to finish with a 7640 on the trial version. That's 'markin only the primary tests (none of the other little ones)

What gives, my system does a easy 4000+ and all tests involved scores close to 6000.

I got close to that score today with a BFG 7800GTX and a 3000+ with 2 x 1GB Crucial on an Asus A8V-E Deluxe. BFG card is their OC'd one though....I think I got like 7802 or something like that.

Have not OC'd the 3000+

You shouldn't see a substantial increase heh. You might want to tighten timings for the ram.

I got 6407 in 3dmark05 with a x800xt...

That impossible at a decent resolution.. Currently, only overclocked 7800GTX SLI systems can hit 14K+ in 3DMark05.

Normal 7800GTX systems are at around 13200-14000 in 3DMark05.

What does that mean?

SHENS = Shenanigans; used when something appears made up or grossly exaggerated.

Basically, he's saying there's no way 2 6600GT's can hit 14,000 in 3DM05. I'd have to agree. My rig (SLI 6600GT's) hits ~7000 at best when everything is OC'd to the max and nothing else is running. Maybe he hit 14K in 3DM01? My 3DMark05 @ Stock

7640 does sound about normal for a single 7800GTX on that hardware. nVidia names their GPU's after the theoretical 3DM05 score and it's not like you're on an FX-57 which they test on. As suggested, try tightening the mem timings. Also make sure you're on the latest driver and check the nVidia CP applet settings.

Normal 7800GTX systems are around 8000 in 3DM05, I think you meant. ;) 14K is SLI'd, as you previously mentioned.
