Is this normal for my 75gxp?

I ran hdtach on it and my maximum speed was 38411k, but my minumum was 1820k!!!!!! The graph takes huge dips and goes back up. My average is 28689.5k though. Is this normal or not? Thanks.

your max and avg seems about right with my 45 gig 75gxp but your minimum is way way down there

Should I install the via bus master driver for 2k? I'm using the default driver because I heard it was better.

does this happen again if you re-run the benchmark? i have had low dips (quick dips, not sustained low numbers) when i used hdtach (i can't run it now with win2k) but they seemed to be anomolies. it might only be a problem if it happens consistently.

12000 is still low for your minimum, the avg minimum for this drive is around 18-19 meg

okay i rebooted and ran hd tach a couple of times and all my scores were fairly close, heres a sample:

random access time: 12.4 ms
read burst speed: 31.9 mbps
read speed max:32,582.0 kps
read speed min:18,226.0 kps
read speed avg:28,246.5 kps

btw i installed the via 4.32 this morning and it seemed to lower my minimum by around 600k but my fps in UT went up, so its all good hehe.

somethings not right here. is your ide controller an ata 33 one as with
an ata100 controller you should be getting 80+ burst speed with that hdd!

hmm lol, i guess i might have put in an ata33 cable on my hd by accident, probably got them all mixed up, hehe i bet my cdrw drive or something is probably using it now 😛, ill check later
