is this messed up? (job, recruiter)

Tell me people if this is normal.

Time line:

March : This recruiter finds my resume, says he has an opening to start working right away. I come to meet him, interview goes fine he says can you start ASAP? I say yes so he says I will have interview for you tomorrow with the employer (Friday) and if you pass you will start Monday or so. He never calls me back, I call and leave a message. Nothing. So I forget the whole thing.

May 8th. Guy is back from the dead, can you come the interview to the same place tomorrow. I go, I pass I get the job. He calls me and asks when can you start. I tell him that I can start ASAP but I am leaving on this Birth Right trip to Israel on 18th and I can start now and work for a week and come back on June 12th. I tell him it is cool if they say no, but he calls me back and says it is all good you can start Monday. I am so happy, good company lot of growth potential and they were so nice to begin with.

May 12th. First day, I liked it alot both work and people. I spoke with my Manager and he even offered me to work the hours I wanted this week and make it my permanent schedule when I come back in 2 WEEKS!!! I am like, I am sorry sir but I am coming back in 4 weeks not 2. He thinks for a second and says it is fine go and catch up as much as possible. I stay an extra 1hr and half and don't even take a break. Same evening my recruiter calls me up and tells me he messed up and I can't come to work tomorrow since they can't afford to pay HIM for 4 weeks when I am gone and they need to hire someone now. But I can call him when I get back and he can check if the company is still hiring. He says that my "boss" talked to his superior and he did not approve my absense. This is all after I've been told numerous times that it was fine.

My take on this that the recruiter lied purposely to get me through the door and get paid somehow one way or the other. I really wish they told me no right away, because this was really upsetting. Is there any place I can complain, I am just pissed off so bad I do not even want to go and collect the money I made yesteday and see that slimy fat f#ck!!

I have had this happen....but from a recrcruiter from the company, not a head hunter. Had the job, lost the it due to their stupidity (they mixed up start dates and schedualed me to start while I was on vacation in China) and became jobless for 8 months.

I had a shitty experience with a temp firm. Not quite the same, but pretty close. The lady I was dealing with told me the job would pay $30/hour. That was way more than I was making before so I was really excited. I start working for the company and a week later after trying to talk to my agent, I get a call from another guy at the agency saying she no longer works there. Then he says they have no record of her offering me $30/h. The "original" amount was supposed to be $22. I was pissed. They were kind enough to offer me $25. I haggled some more and got it up to $28 but was still pissed. Luckily now I am an official employee of the company and getting my $30/hour. You gotta watch out with these guys. Make sure you get things in writing, or at least an email.

Oh and I found out the temp agency was charging $52/hour for me to work there. I know I could have probably gotten more than $30 but I get really good benefits and it is a great place to work so I'm fine with what I have.

Simple enough to deal with. Sit down with the said company and lay it all out for them. They should know the problem here is the recruiter, not you. However, you'll need to admit that you screwed up by not clearing your scheduling needs directly with the company... Maybe they will hire you directly when you get back. I would tell the recruiter to go jump in a lake.

Most recruiters are just a step above used car salesmen in my experience. And it's a very small step.
Definitely the truth here. Ive had some harass me trying to get me to go through them for a new job when I was just shopping in a computer store. I will have nothing to do with 'em.

going around recruiters ftw!!! especially asshole recruiters like that.

Yep, recruiters are all trash and care nothing for their reputation. All lawyers are jerks too. Accountants? Every one a nerd, and they could give a crap if you're audited. Police like to taser old ladies. Doctors see so many dead people they don't care about human suffering at all. Education majors consistently have the lowest gpas on campus, and that's who's teaching our children. Judges think they're above the law. Most politicians are above the law. Garbagemen smell. Plumbers can't figure out how to wear a pair of pants. Firemen only do it for the girls. Military personnel are mostly psychos who just want to kill someone. Real estate agents should be shot on sight. Clergymen like clergyboys. Basically everyone's an asshole.

OP: you went back to the same guy after he forgot about you the first time you worked together and never returned your calls? Looks like you were asking to get screwed.

if you signed a contract through the recruiter to work forthis comapny, if the comapny direct hires you even after going around the recruiter, the comapny still has to pay the temp agency a large fee. Most likely the comapny will not bite on this. I hope you are actively pursuing a job on your own without the help of a temp agency as well?

I cant delay it and I was clear to begin with. I turned 27 and cut off is 26. I am going for 4 weeks with free museums, food, lodging to Netherlands, Beligum, Israel, Egypt and going to see Petra in Jordan...almost FREE! And recruiters call all the time, getting job is not the issue here it is the way I was treated. No big deal, Karma will take care of it. 🙂

He called me, I did not call him after March appointment!!!
