Without looking, I'd say you should ask yourself how they'll stay in business. If it's legit they'll either need to spam you to death for ad revenue, or it's only "free" for a teaser period just like AOL.

If it's a scam the goals could be
- stealing peronal info
- turning your PC into a spam, popup or P2P server

it says the "corporations" pay for it. you have to sign up for some of their offers though, some of which dont cost anything.

I think that falls under "... they'll either need to spam you to death for ad revenue . ..." :) (and/or referral revenue).

It might last a little while, until the corps all realize they're being scammed (fed people with no interest in their products), or if the corps will pay enough so that they can spam you to death :)

You might try it if you're really desperate to save $10 a month, or want more reading material in your inbox.

How's this different from former (circa 1999-2001) free Internet companies like NetZero? If it works, it works.

Why is it that you guys think this is a scam or that he'll get bombarded with spam? This is dialup. Up here in Canada, average price of dialup is $9-14CDN.. (which is about $7-10USD). Of course our broadband is dirt cheap compared to the US as well, but that just goes to show that it is possible to make a profit from offering such low prices.
