The other is this legal thread made me wonder if this is legal.


Is there a max amount of money you can bring to another country. Would it be illegal to fly to mexico with $10,000 dollars in cash on you. I know well a group of 10 people who plan to fly to another country they will have a total of around $150,000 in Cash on them. I was wondering is there anything illegal about this. They plan to have the money in there pockets with the pockets sowed shut. Each person will have around 15,000 dollars. They are not going to mexico, mexico was just an example.

I think 10k is the limit before you have to declare to customs how much cash you have on hand.

it's $10,000 cash carry limit, i really hope your just saying they arent going to mexico, last time i was in mexico (had been 50 times or more before) ... i ended up in jail with my cash stolen, if i had 15,000, itd be gone as well

Not everyone lives in great parts of the world. If I had a relative in some place like Croatia or Chechnya, straight cash is the only way I'd give it to them.

You should suggest to them to only bring 10k each, with the number of people going and the increased security the chances of one or more getting caught and charged is very real.

If they want to bring more they are going to have to figure out a better way than putting it in a pocket and sewing it shut because that is not going to fool any TSA screeners.

I will suggest to them to only have 10k each and just have some of them make a second trip later, with the rest. It may cost more but I think it would be best.
