last night when my parents took me out to eat, i saw a car pull out of their garage. it was night so their lights were on, well, under their brake lights they had BLUE lights! these werent just little blue lights these were BIG, and they were BLUE! i mean dark blue and they were bright too! boy did they look cool, are these legal? i thought they could only be orange, red, amber, or white? thanks

In CA we couldn't even use blue lights on our ambulances because they were meant for law enforcement only. I don't know how that could be legal, but every state is different. We do have blue lights on our rigs in NV.

oh, i see, im in california, san jose. i was just wondering cuz a lonnnng time ago, my brother got fined and all this crap for all these "illegal" lights. green foglights and colors and crap.

blue is generally reserved for law enforcement, but i don't know the laws for each state. so those blue nozzle lights, blue license plate lights, blue undercar neons and such are pretty much subject to ticketing by any prick cop who feels like it.

Brake lights must be red in any state. Side markers, turn signals, head lights, and other lights vary by state. So blue brake lights are illegal and really stupid too. "Hey, that car ahead of us has really cool blue" BAM!

I think they were under the brake lights.. from what I can make ouf of LongCool's post

Well up in Canada, Ontario actually, my friend got ticketed for installing small purple lights in the center of his brake lights, they were really small too, but he got slapped with a ticket.

I think you're referring to 'blue dots'....popular with the street rod crowd. They make the brake lights seem purple from a distance...technically not legal here in CA, but there sure are a lot of 'em.
AFAIK, the Feds regulate the color of lights on cars (NHTSA) and brake lights have to have red lenses (sorry ricers), marker lights have to be amber (again sorry, ricers), turn signals can be amber or
red.
