I'd do it...but I speed too and would appreciate if someone did it for me. Besides, who actually wants people to get tickets. The worst is people who get pissed off at you for rolling through a stop sign when it's obvious there's no one in site. It's so ingrained in people's heads that they think it's SSSOOO bad to roll through a stop sign. Just like I run red lights at 3 in the morning with no one around. It's only bad if you're causing accidents and I haven't ever been close. It's not so bad is it. That being said, I don't condone speeding through school zones. Even I slow down in school zones. But if the cop is in it for anything else besides the money, they're not going to care because face it, you're getting people to slow down and that's what they want.

Ok, we have established that it is believed to be illegal but I have yet to see any information telling us WHY it would be illegal or did I just skip a post?

No, it's not illegal. It's analogous to running a protest. There was actually a case of a guy parking his car in front of a photo radar van as to obscure the camera here. He got off because it was ruled that what he was doing was legal, just parking his car on the sidewalk.

There's something in this country called freedom of speech...you're allowed to do this.

nope, all we know so far is that it is 'very' illegal, as opposed to 'slightly' illegal or 'somewhat' illegal

as someone said before, i imagine the cops were just pissy because they didnt catch anyone, the people holding the sign up were actually slowing down traffic therefor improving safety, meanwhile all the cops did was sit and camp

Drivers like you should be off the road! It says stop for a reason, and the light is red for a reason. If you don't have the patience to wait for the light to change or to do your stop correctly then you shouldn't be driving.

Most accidents happen at intersections, why do you think they happen? Cus people stop when theres a stop sign, slow down for the yellow light and stop for the red light????

im really wondering what happen to those guys. i heard different stuff, from them just getting warned to law issues. ill try to find out.

i can understand why itd be bad. because its preventing people who were speeding from actually getting caught like they should.

but then again, its helping with the cop's "purpose" to make the streets safer and such. im guessing the police got mad because they didnt catch anyone almost all day long.

funny thing is, the students were like right at the corner of the curb. when the cops were like only a few hundred yards away. must have been awkward for them. i saw them get taken away in the two police cars but i dont know what happen afterwards. heh.

How does this cause accidents if you do it safely? I have never been in an accident before. You're the type of person who has been taught there's a right way to do things and you should always do it regardless even if you think it's unreasonable. I'm not a monkey to follows and does everything they're supposed to without thinking about it. Do I stop completely at most stop signs? yeah. When I know there's no one coming at 4 way stop signs do I roll through some of them? Yeah. What's the point of waiting 2 minutes for a red light at 3 in the morning with no one around? Do I blow through a red light?? No. I treat it as a 4 way stop at 3 am in the morning. I stop I check for cops and people, then I run it. No harm done.

Most states and counties it is illegal. Same as shouting COP during a drug transaction, or if they are under cover.

Now if you went to a jury trial with it you might be found not guility by people of that area, but they may reduce the charge if you plead guilty.

"I have never been in an accident before. "

Doesn't mean you won't get into one.

What if your coming up to a three/four way stop at 3 am and so is another guy, and you both decided not to stop. What do you think is going to happen?

Driving is all about patience, and if you to inpatient to take 5 seconds to stop at a stop sign, or two bloody minutes at a red light you should NOT be driving. Seriously, what does two minutes actually change in your lifetime? Wouldn't it be a lot less stressful for you to just wait the two minutes then look everywhere to see if cars or coming and worry about cops and such?

You seem to think that I blow through stop signs without even slowing down. At night, you can see headlights from far away. If I see someone coming I complete stop. You use discretion, you don't just blow through stop signs as you please. I am impatient, I don't like doing things I see as pointless. It doens't add any stress...I look around as I normally would sitting at a light doing nothing. To each his own. You stop and wait your 2 minutes, I'll go through. If I get a ticket, I'll accept the consequences because I know it was illegal, but I saw it pointless to stop when no one could be seen anywhere around. And I only roll through stop signs with clear visibility in all directions which are 4 ways, or there's one which is some guy's driveway which is a 3way. So the only other direction besides straight a person could ever be going in is into that house. I just don't see how running a stop sign is wrong if your'e doing so safely and not causing accidents. Just because they tell you it's wrong and tell you oh, it's so bad to run a stop sign and the consequences are so harsh?

I don't see how it would be illiegal. Same as with a drug bust say your sitting there and cops come to bust your roomate and you say"hey didn't you pull me over last week?" The police that are trying to catch a speeder can't prove that that they made any cars slow down that were speeding.

the folks spouting off as lawyers saying with certainly that it's illegal, please dust off your law books and post a relevant case or law supporting your position.

Call the local D/A or ploice office and ask, it may be different for each state, but as far as I know it is illegal.

But the stupid thing is most areas put in the paper everyday where the speedtraps are :p Yet people still get tickets there.

Yes they can. Look at the numbers from one day to the next. You will see a pretty dramatic decrease.

i almost always flash my lights at people when i see a cop running radar. didn't know i was breaking the law all this time. one time, i was just kinda mindlessly doing it, and i flashed a driver's ed car :D
