is this hot for sempron 64??????

i just upgraded about 4 day's ago... i got a fry's combo.... came with an abit NF8-V Motherboard..... It is the sempron 2800..... i also got 512mb of mushkin memory set to 1t and cas 2.0 @ 200mhz.... i got the whole combo for $205 plus tax.....

but the motherboard report's 36c i think the board is off because i touched the heat sink and it only has a little warmth to it...

it is using the stock AMD cooler.... and paste....

any advise would be helpful.......

the thing is my old 1300 duron when it got to 36c my room heated up a bit....... i could fell it but my new sempron that is reported to be at 36c my room is nice and cool???? don't make any sense to me...

u must be living in a tiny room. but the sempron air conditioning keeps it cool, eh? iam a lousy entertainer, i kno.

but ur temps are fine, obviously. u could still touch the heatsink to check temps manually.

? is do you think the board is off... iv heard of sempron's at 26c stock with staock cooling.....

temps aren't bad. it should be warm to the touch, that way you know its working..

That temps sounds correct. 36C will feel just luke warm to the touch. This Sempron CPU is also probably outputting 20W less heat than your old Duron. You can't go by temps when estimating how much the CPU heats the surroundings. It's the power output that affects this. The temperature is also dependant on core size, thermal interface, heatsink/fan, etc.

The temperature reported by the motherboard is the CPU die's temperature, not the heatsink temperature. The heatsink HAS to be colder than the die so the heat flows into it. Also, the heatsink's core will be hotter than the outer (exposed) areas.

I have a Sempron 3400+ with a Zalman copper HS and my Gigabyte board shows 22C at idle and 31 under Prime95. With stock cooling I would expect 30's with no problem. As far as the feel test, as long as feels and reports a cool temp you should be fine.

my a64 runs 56-60 loaded. I don't think 30's is a problem...

56-60C under load? Is that the temp for your processor in the rig? Are you overclocking? If you aren't than yikes, if you are well that is acceptable then :laugh:

Haha ... well 60 when it's oc'd
still... at stock levels and volts ... max load is 56
these are for the cpu.

The max system temp is about 40 i think.
I've got one 120 exhaust and one 120 intake
that's about it... and stock hs/f

It sure runs fine ... the hs is a little warm to hot ... but these things rate up pretty high before they blow no?

I remember everyone saying the old athlon tbirds should run under 45 ... I ran mine oc'd stock hs/f for 5 years at max loads well over 50.

still works rock solid ... and if it died today ... well i upgraded a year ago anyhow...

That's barely above room temp... that's BELOW room temp in some parts of the world. If someone's Sempron is running 26 degrees C, either they live in Cananda and have the computer outside, or the temp reading is off.

Remember, anything that's above your body temperature will feel warm to you, anything below your body temperature will feel cool to you. It should feel warm... it's unreasonable to expect a CPU to run cooler than you do.

I'd think the temp reading was off.

Isn't average body temperature about 37.5ºC? If the OP's heatsink is barely warm and BIOS tells him 36ºC, then BIOS is right.

With the older Durons the motherboards usually had a thermister in the middle of the socket while the new CPUs report temperatures to the motherboard. The older setups will always report a lower temperature than what the core of the CPU is running at.
