A friend brought be a computer running Win98SE when it boots it comes up with the message that msgsvr32 has caused a general fault in module setup.dll. The computer then freezes. I get the same result trying to boot into safe mode.

Any ideas what I could do to save from having to reinstall Windows?

Thanks.

Aaargh!!

I had the same problem once when I hosed a video driver upgrade. Unable to get into safe mode, I was forced to swap out to an old PCI card, detect and install *its* drivers, delete the AGP card AND reinstall the VIA miniport drivers (for the Athlon mb) before I could safely boot up with the original video card. Were you doing anything in particular before the error began to occur?

Apparently they removed some virus software called virucide (for win3.1 95 and dos) and installed norton antivirus 2001. They said it was only happening sometimes, but it's happened every time for me.

Thanks.
